         <description><![CDATA[<div>The royal visit outraged many Serbian nationalists because they viewed them as foreign oppressors. In 1389, Serbia had been conquered by the Ottoman empire. In 1912, Serbia had freed itself from Turkish rule.<br>The archduke ignored warnings of anti-Austrian unrest in Sarajevo His wife rode through Sarajevo in an open car and along the route were Black Hand conspirators.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Kaiser William 2nd of Germany was horrified of the assassination. He wrote to Francis Joseph advising him to make a for stand, and that he would have Germany's full support. Russia was sought out by Serbia for help. Nicholas 2nd asked William 2nd to tell Austria to soften their demands. When this didn't work Russia began to prepare for war. Germany then declared war on Russia. Russia turned to its ally France, Paris saw a chance to avenge the defeat in the Franco-Prussian War. Although French leaders did have doubts, so they gave Russia the same kind of backing Germany did Austria. Germany demanded France keep out, France refused, so Germany declared war on France. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Italy and Britain remained uncommitted to what was happening. Italy remained neutral for the time, while Britain had to chose quickly on whether or not to support their ally France. A man General Alfred von Schlieffen years earlier created a plan to attack France. It worked by avoiding a two-front war from from France in the west and Russia in the east. But due to Russia's lumbering military under they would be slow to mobilize. The Schlieffen plan did have to have Germany defeat France quickly. The plan required Germany to march through Belgium, on August 3 they invaded Belgium. But Britain and other European nations signed a treaty that guaranteeing Belgian neutrality. This caused Britain to be outraged and declare war on Germany. </div>]]></description>
