Determination has a personal role in my life because like everyone I have goals in life to achieve and I blame the lack of determination when I don’t reach those goals I feel like i need to work harder and more consistently to reach my goals. I think making an artwork that exemplifies this would help me focus and remind me what needs to be done.

For me Personally its been something I have always battled, from fighting addictions and promising myself today is the last day I do the things that aren't serving my best interests, to having a goal in mind, completing 95% off it and just phoning it in at the last hurdle instead of taking the time to complete that last 5% and make it shine the way it was intended.

I also would like to take the struggle I have had with determination and share a piece of work that if I am lucky, will inspire them to ask themselves what they are determined to do in life and if they are on the path of achieving it. Hopefully inspiring them to take action and fuel there determination to succeed in their goal

One story of determination that resonates with me is the story of Dashrath Manjhi, an Indian man who's wife is gravely injured while going through the hills, the villagers and her husband attempted to get her to hospital but she unfortunately did not make it in time.

In his grief Dashrath vowed that no one else would die because they couldn’t get to the help they needed. Spending the next 22 years with only a hammer and chisel hammering and carving a road through a mountain until he had turned a 30km trip to the hospital 3km, making it far more accessible for his village and saving lives along the way, a beautiful testament of love and commitment.
