John Fitzgerald Kennedy was the thirty-fifth president of the United States. He was assassinated on November 22, 1963 in Dallas, Texas.

Childhood

JFK was born on May 29, 1917 in Brookline, Massachusetts. He was one of four boys in his nine child household. He took up the nickname of Jack early on. When he was young, John was in terrible health contracting diseases like chicken pox and whooping cough. Later on he had a close call with scarlet fever, almost dying. When he was three, he had moved with his family to a house close to Boston.

School

John was enrolled into Choate, a boarding school in Connecticut. He had many friends and was very popular at this school. After he left Choate, John enrolled in Harvard University, where his brother was already studying. Here he played football like his brother, but he suffered an injury to his spine that stopped him from playing anymore. During his schooling, John's father became the British ambassador, causing his family to move away. During his last year of college, WWII broke out.

War

After the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor and President Roosevelt gave his speech, John was compelled to join the navy. He had doubts because he had injured his back, but his father had connections within the navy that helped John join. He only did trivial stateside jobs until the summer of 1942 when he had the opportunity to enroll in Officers Training School. Finally, he had the opportunity to take charge on his own ship, the Elcho PT. John's crew encountered Japanese ships and were stranded at sea. They eventually escaped, and John took command of a new ship. In 1944, John was sent stateside to receive care for injuries he got during his fight with the Japanese. Here he was given the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for his service.

Presidency to Death

John was elected president on January 20, 1961. He had been elected as the Democratic representative and beat the Republican Richard Nixon. He is the youngest and was the first Roman Catholic president. During his presidency, John focused on Civil Rights and helped eliminate poverty. Shortly into his presidency, John let a group of Cuban exiles go to Cuba to try to overthrow the communist leader, Fidel Castro. This evoked a reaction from the Soviet Union, compelling them to start placing missiles in Cuba. John stopped a war by convincing the Soviet Union to remove the missiles. Close to the end of his presidency, on November 22, 1963, John went to Texas to try and win the state for his rerun. Here he was assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald.
