Obviously this text is about someone that has my name. This text is not very complex at all. Growing up I have been called Amelia Bedilia whenever I told anyone my name was Amelia. My parents also read this text aloud to me all of my childhood. Amelia Bedilia is so funny and I would just laugh and laugh about all of the silly things she did. This is a great read aloud for all ages as younger ages would think this text is hilarious and for older ages that could read the text on their own, the text would still make them laugh too. I would not say this text build upon any other lessons or texts but it is simply just a fun text to read. I would probably engage the children by asking them what their favorite part of the story was after reading it. Children who play instruments may find this interesting. This text set also could build upon ideas that were in The Undefeated. This text tells a story of a black musician so children of color in my future classroom may benefit from reading a story about someone with the same color skin as them. This text is rather long and would be more beneficial to children that are in 2nd and older grades because it is a longer and more detailed story. An activity that could go alongside this text would be to have the children write out a paragraph summary to make sure they understood the story. Originally this story was read to us during CFS 353 lecture and I fell in love with the story. It is a story about a girl who wants her hair to be perfect for a special day that her moms come to at the end of the story. This text is not very complex as it tells a basic story that does not have unfamiliar vocabulary. Children could relate to this text if they were of color and struggled with their hair because it is different than the hair of white people. This again offers students that are African American a sense of belonging. This text would be appropriate for all ages for a read aloud. Some younger children may not be able to read it on their own; however, the sentence and word structure is simple and easy to follow. An activity that children could do alongside this text is to write down different vocabulary words over the course of the text while listening to it. After the children write down the words, read the text again to see if they cold pick up and guess at what these words mean. I discovered this text through my picture book presentation assignment in my REED 330 class. This text is rather complex with some unfamiliar tier II and tier III words while also having a very long story line. However, the illustrations make the book very easy to follow. It is a story where a turtle named Mossy is discovered to have a garden growing on her back and she is shipped to a museum because of it. Soon to be discovered, Mossy is sent back to the pond where she was originally found and lives happily ever after. This text is longer than others so it may be a good text to read aloud for 1st grader or above. Some kindergarten and younger ages would enjoy this story through Jan's detailed illustration but it may be hard for them to sit still for a little while and stay focuses. This text could build upon lessons relating to plants, animal life, and ponds. An activity to do would be to have children interact with moss, different plants, and water to see if they could create their own garden to put on Mossy's back. The illustrations in this book really compliment the story as it completely allows the reader to visualize what is happening in the story. An activity to do with a class after reading this story would be to have to children draw a wild monster and describe what they do when they are wild. This is a fun activity that children will enjoy taking apart in because it is silly. This text is simply a light hearted and fun book to read, however by doing this activity children are practicing their literacy by writing down their ideas. There are a few images that can help the children visualize the island but not too many to where they will be able to use their creativity and imagination to create their own idea of the island. This text should be read individually and should be broken up into different parts over a time period. Throughout the course of the book an activity that children could engage in is having an ongoing chart of human and non-human characters in the book. This text can show how helpful friendships can be and how things can get tough for everyone too. This text is a chapter book and should be broken up into different parts where the student read it individually on their own time. This text can be seen as ore complex than others because of some unfamiliar tier III words in the text. It is a chapter book so children should be ranging from 1-4 grade. An activity for children to do with this text is for them to describe a time they struggled and how they overcame it. They can write this down by practicing writing and expressing their thoughts. These texts are not very complex for the age group that reads them. The text should be aimed for ages of 1-4 grade depending on the individual's reading level. It could take a week or more to read the book as the groups would read a different section a day. At the end of reading the text I would have the children come together for a group discussion about the different climates in the book. When we do this activity I can revisit what the text says so that children can relate this action to what they are doing by recycling.
