This was my first time using acrylic paint, and I fell in love with it. It was easy to use, while still providing a bit of a challenge. The juxtaposition of the sullen face and the googly eyes is something that I enjoyed painting. I was trying to portray the idea that even when everything is going wrong, to not take yourself too seriously. Going along with that train of thought, I added a dark background with lightening bugs to show the light in the dark. I have had the sketch in my sketchbook for months, and I'm glad I decided to paint it. The human form is something that has always inspired me, as well as angel iconography, so I combined them into this piece. This semester, I also got more into strange shapes and cut out art. Putting all of this together with the cut out of the paper, and the form, created something that was unique. Before I even started putting brush to paper, I practiced how to draw bruises and cuts in my sketchbook, as I wanted to make this piece as perfect as possible. This piece is slightly bittersweet. I'm proud of it, because this is the only 'watercolor' piece that I have done that is actually good, but it still isn't to the quality that I want to get to with my art. I'd really like to progress in my watercolor abilities, so that I can create a piece like this to the standards that I hold myself to. Not only is the standard subpar, but I didn't have much of a plan for the background, and had to think of something to do.
