The people who call themselves farmers but actually just own the land, actually do really well financially. The family shown in the film had too many people living in a small house, where they had to get up at 5 in the morning to get their child to the daycare to be back in time for the bus. They have to do this day after day while the landowners get all of the credit.

Due to immigration laws and the treatment from society, farm workers are often taken advantage of. They need the work and the money, even if the money is not worth the amount of work they put into the farms. These workers can easily be blackmailed because of being in this country illegally, which reminds me of the phrase, "two wrongs don't make a right."

The owners of the land in Napa are making millions, and the laborers deserve to be paid a fair wage. The people who are actually out in the fields day in and day out are getting paid around $42 a day. This relates to the current debates about changing the minimum wage since there are so many people out there who work full-time jobs and are trying to make ends meet with only getting around $9.25 an hour. I haven't done enough research to make a decision on what side I am, but I do believe that the minimum wage should be raised at least a few dollars.

Going into watching these movies I was interested to see if they were going to relate to current issues that I feel passionately about, so I was pleasantly surprised by Food Chain$. People's feelings about immigration right now are very tense no matter which side you are on. My sophomore year roommate's family came over illegally before her and her sisters were born. I remember her opening up to me around election time about how her family was handling the news of Trump's win. Her parents worked really hard to become citizens and provide a good life for their three children, but her father still does not get the pay he deserves.
