This is similar to 1984 because the government watches them through their telescreen.

Matched by Ally Condie
- This book is similar to 1984 because it involves a girl who lives in a utopian society similar to Winston. Her problem though is that she is in love with someone who isn't the person she is "matched" with. It reminds me of Winston and Julia and how their love is forbidden.

What It Teaches You

1984 really makes you question the world that we live in. While I was reading it, I was wondering if these things happen around me such as being watched and changing history. From the characters you can learn that some things may never change, but it is worth it to attempt to make a change. George Orwell is trying to express to people that we may never be as safe as we think we are and questioning the things happening around you is okay. His purpose in writing this is to show people that if we let the government have too much power, things may turn out like it did in 1984.
