In my sociological exploration of airport culture, I observed behaviour, temporary consumerism, and the sense of entitlement among those commuting. I comprehended a prevalent urgency and self-importance, signifying a disregard for communal courtesy. This resonated with C. Wright Mills’ assertion on societal norms and their temporary relevance. Furthermore, the blatant need for consumerism within airports echoed Emile Durkheim’s concept of social currents, highlighting the influence of social structures on individual behaviour.

Some questions originated from my observations: How do individual actions reflect broader social norms? How can sociological understandings tell us about individuals and their unique behaviours? My observations highlight the commonly accepted behaviours, surges in consumerism and the lack of public courtesy for those travelling via planes.
