Construction Manager in SA.
Work experience:
Started in the Coal Mines UK - Mechanical En gineering - then quickly realised that i could earn more money in a leadership/management role. 
Left the mines and started working on major rail projects across the UK. Projects included new tram systems, London underground and track renewals for Network Rail.
In 2010 an old boss asked me if I fancied working in Australia. At the time i was working on a project with 3ft of snow and temp of -4. It didn't take long to say yes. 
We emigrated to Adelaide in 2010, I've worked with Transfield Services, CPB and now MCD. Just passed my 4-year anniversary with MCD.

In this time I have worked in 4 states across Australia in various roles, including Health and Safety, I have been part developing projects from concept, tender, delivery and closeout at the end of DLP.

In my spare time, I enjoy getting out into the magnificent countryside we have and exploring it with my fiancé.

I joined McConnell Dowell just under 2 years ago in the NSW/ACT Region. I came to MCD to diversify my career, which had previously been station upgrade projects. Since joinging MCD I have been lucky enough to work on a couple of Earthen Dam estimates, a large steel bridge estimate, was also deployed to work as a client representative for a large concrete dam project earlyworks scope, and soon to start on a port upgrade project.

I am looking forward to the operational leadership program to help develop some of my softer and self skills, which we generally don't make time for during project delivery. I am interested to learn how I can progress to the next level and be a part of a strong leadership team.

Fun fact - I can remember every cutover date and significant lift on a project, however, I forget my partner's and kids' birthdays and anniversaries without fail. m-)

Currently working in the Inland Rail Project from Wangaratta Vic. I am from Bogota, Colombia, came to Australia 13 years ago to do some studies (For 6 months only!!) and decided to stay for work.  

During this time, I've worked for a small company called Girdwood Contracting in Melbourne and then JHG for another 8 years around Melbourne and regional vic areas.

I have been with MCD for just over 2 years, currently in pre-contracts as part of the NELP Eastern Fwy consortium, having bid lead & delivered Narre Warren Cranbourne Rd. 

I have been in the industry for nearly 30 years, having spent time abroad living in London in the early 2000's. 

In a time that has seen so much change, I am looking forward to adding more tools to the toolkit. 

My wife & I travel overseas most years, most recently we were in Japan & Taiwan over the month of April.

Spending the next 10 years getting the opportunity to work across various projects across Australia. The experience  set a solid foundation for me and built some friendships I still have today. 

I left MCD for a couple of years to work with Acciona and Fulton Hogan and returned in 2021.

I have also seen changes over this time, not only in Management, but also in Management styles, some of which have been more effective than others in building and maintaining these teams.
I am looking forward to the Operational Leadership Program to further develop my leadership skills and are open to identifying some meaningful opportunities for improvement. 
I am sparing a thought for my wife, that will need to manage the household with two young children, two nuisance cats, and an 11 week old puppy while I am away...

I came to Australia alone at the age of 17 with limited English. After I completed my Tertiary Degree in UWA, I joined MCD through the Graduate Project in Perth. I did nearly 7 years of FIFO, then returned to metro area and started working on major departmental infrastructure project in Adelaide. 
My personal experiences have shaped me into a driven and resilient individual, which has helped my career progression. 
I am looking forward to this program, which I know will help me taking further steps in the leadership role.
