When people inside this community were inside their houses because there was a warning that there was an unknown aircraft flying in the air so near to the community. But, the speaker did let everyone know that it was a new pilot just trying to fly back before his errors were noticed. The speaker says, “NEEDLESS TO SAY, HE WILL BE RELEASED.” In other words, there was a new pilot in this community and he wanted to fly back before his errors were noticed but, everyone thought it was something else so the speaker told everyone in the community to go inside the nearby building and stay there. A few minutes later, the speaker made an announcement to the community saying that he was a new pilot and stated, “NEEDLESS TO SAY, HE WILL BE RELEASED.” The author is trying to make us see that, when this quote says, “..., HE WILL BE RELEASED.” it means that the person (new pilot) is going to get kicked out of the community. This quote reveals that if a tiny mistake is made in this community, they will be released/kicked out of the community. And yes, they used idiomatic expressions for the phrase, “NEEDLESS TO SAY”. The effect of this quote is to lower the danger of “release,” making it seem normal, which creates a nervous sense of emotional separation. This story/passage significantly impacts my thinking about the quote, which means that the quote shows how the community normalizes death, treating it as a routine. I see this idea in real-world situations where difficult actions are explained for control, ignoring moral concerns.

When a wandering flight-trainee accidentally flew over the society, causing havoc, consequences were issued. The quote, "Needless to say, he will be released,", spoken by the person on the intercom, showed the effect of the mistake made by the pilot. In other words, the pilot was kicked out of society. The significance of this quote is to show the readers and citizens that, in the Giver society, breaking the rules (even accidentally) will not be tolerated. Mistakes will NOT BE TOLERATED! Also, the speaker over the intercom pronounces that quote in what seems to be a moodless, emotionless, kind of monotone way. The author is trying to introduce the idea of a dystopian society with the dystopian characteristics of control and propaganda, which is important because it is what starts up the conflict in the story. In real life, mistakes are what help us grow. One takeaway from this is that mistakes are a part of our usual life and we should embrace them, not shun them.

When the Pilot-in-Training flies over the community, the Speaker says, “Needless to say, he will be released.” In other words, he is saying that The Pilot-in-Training will be removed, an obvious decision in their world. The author is trying to make us see that the people in charge are enjoying this severe punishment. This quote is important in context of the story because it shows how the Speaker is happy to punish the Pilot-in-Training, or just punishing people in general.

Jonas was frightened and had a flashback where the public announcers known as speakers were notifying the citizens of an unidentified, fast-moving jet. It was just a mere disoriented pilot-in-training who accidentally flew over their community. Finally, the speaker said, “Needless to say, he will be released.” The author is trying to make us see that this statement was supposed to be ironic, but also a severe consequence to be made in their community. The author is trying to emphasize the overwhelming failure and disgrace. In other words, a person, or in this case, the person flying the jet will be kicked out of the community, with no second chance. That is if he was part of the community.

The literary device used in this quote is irony. The author is trying to show us that this statement is humorous and the opposite of the real meaning.

This quote is important because it shows how the characters in The Giver deal with severe transgressions or other issues. They believe that Sometimes, these consequences must be taken to protect society. One real-world example is getting fired or laid off from work because of your mistake, such as lack of effort.

When a pilot in training had misread his navigations the person on the intercom states, “NEEDLESS TO SAY, HE WILL BE RELEASED. The purpose of this quote was to say that the pilot in training will get released/kicked out. This was also trying to make this punishment, being released or kicked sound good. This is because the NEEDLESS TO SAY was trying not to make it sound bad. I mean they can just say HE WILL BE RELEASED-. So I feel the speaker's purpose was to make this very big punishment into something that sounds better and take the hurtfulness and the danger out of the RELEASED. When the pilot just did it, people were ordered to be in the closest building and Jonas was frightened and scared of his community silent and waiting. He was also in his house while his parents were at work and his sis at the Childcare center. A few seconds later this comes out of the intercom, “NEEDLESS TO SAY HE WILL BE RELEASED." This reveals that this community has big punishments and they do not take it easy like how our world in most places is. This makes me think how our world is different because in most places we don’t get these types of punishments for a thing like this however in other places there is probably something like this or like even worse. I also think that mistakes will help us to grow and we should embrace them. I do not like this idea and obviously will not like it where we live like how it is in the book, The Giver, and how it is in some places in the world.

When the evacuated people are reassured that there is no danger and only a pilot who had made an error, the Speaker says, “NEEDLESS TO SAY, HE WILL BE RELEASED.” In other words, the Speaker says that the pilot will be let go from the community. The author is trying to make us see that phrases that seem normal may not always be what we think they are. For example, reading further down the story in chapters 1-5, we can see that to be “released” is another way of saying to be killed. This quote is important because it hints to the reader about the true nature of the society the main character lives in. Some real world connections that could be drawn from the meaning of the quote include how there are often no second chances for severe mistakes and that the world is often unfair.

The in-training pilot accidentally rode the airplane over the community, during which people froze and panicked. The quote, “Needless to say, he will be released” was said right after the announcer ordered people to go inside their homes immediately. In other words, the pilot was killed for what he did. The most disturbing thing about this quote is that the announcer of this statement was not shocked, but actually amused by this occurrence. The significance of the quote displays that the author is showing us subtle hints at how the announcer would rather be ruthless than forgive someone for their mistake. Which can also be depicted as a hint that others may act like that in this dystopia. In addition, this story/passage had a significant impact on my thinking about how a mistake can be depicted in the giver. If you cause a slight disturbance/mistake, it will cost you your life. It also led me to think about how they are trying to “protect” this community, but all they are really doing is trying to shield their society from being imperfect.

When the speaker announced, “Needless to say, he will be released,” the pilot accidentally made a wrong turn and stumbled into the town. The pilot was desperately trying to fix his mistake, but it was too late. The pilot will now be released.

In other words, that person will lose their citizenship, a terrible punishment according to the book. Interestingly, even though this is meant to be a punishment, the announcer said it amusingly, as if it was funny at all. This may suggest that the announcer is trying to hide the negative impact it actually meant to be released. This does not seem to be very effective though, as Jonas already knew what it meant. This quote is important because this suggests that the elders think imperfection is bad, apparently so bad you have to be punished deeply for it.

Chapter 1, Page 3, the speaker, after the incident of the close fly by of the airplane, says “Needless to say, he will be released”, and this quote can be analyzed, and can be paraphrased to mean, "Because of the pilot's mistake, he will be dealt with, by release", and the tone/mood that the speaker says it with, is a kind of amused, satisfaction tone, sort of revealing the cruelty of the people in charge to the reader, kind of hinting that everything isn't okay, or that this isn't exactly a Utopia, introducing a new chapter to the book, but not fully revealing a secret. This is paired with other things in the book, like the absence of mention of color, all hinting towards un-humane conditions, and also hinting at control, kind of like a dystopia, right?

In the story, a plane goes over the community and everyone is told to go inside . Everyone is scared. After a short period, the announcer says that a pilot had read the directions wrong. The way the speaker said it made it sound almost funny. However I think that fun is to cover up so, something darker. In other words, they are saying because he made a mistake he will face consequences. The author is trying to make it seem like a normal event with nothing significant about it, but there might be something more sinister—something that shows the truth about this community. This quote impacts my thinking about whether this community is a utopia. It seems like the community is trying to hide something from everyone else, but what? We also learn that no one in the community knows what happens when someone is released. Do they die, or are they left to die? What does it mean? So I think this quote may reveal something draker about the community that they want no one to know.

When there was nothing to worry about, an unknown speaker called out “NEEDLESS TO SAY, HE WILL BE RELEASED." What happened was a pilot who mistakenly flew over the community which was a transgression. In other words, the author, Lois Lowry, wants us to hint that they are hiding something. The unknown speaker wants us to think that the pilot will be released from the community, meaning that he is no longer needed. The author is trying to make us see that there is more to what being released might mean. Later in the story, we realize that released means to be killed/murdered. This quote is important because the author wants us to know that the place that Jonas is living in may be more than what everybody thinks. A real-world connection that can be made to this quote is that no second chances are given and you must follow the law otherwise you will be released.

It shows that the society lives within harsh principles and that the government believes that everybody should be equal. Some similarities to the real world that could be drawn from the meaning of the quote are how there are severe punishments for mistakes that affect the society negatively, and how there are often no second chances.

When a pilot broke rule and flew way too close to the community, everyone was told to go inside their houses. When the pilot made a harmless mistake, The Speaker says, “Needless to say, he will be released.” In other words, the pilot was ‘released’ from society for a mistake. This means that mistakes will not be allowed in The Giver. Which will harm the society. Everyone learns from their mistakes and if you are not allowed to make mistakes,, no one will ever learn. The author is trying to make us see that there are flaws in a utopia, making it a dystopia. This quote is important because it shows that this “utopia” may not be a utopia. Everything has imperfections including this society. It shows harsh punishments and mind-washing, making them believe that this is normal.

After this The Speaker said, "...Needless to say he will be released. The authors is trying to show us that actions has severe consequences in this community no matter how small. being released for a reason such as this is shown as a great dishonor upon this person. This quote shows that this utopian society might be a distopian society just because of the punishments people are forced to take on. This quote also shows how people don't get second chances.

When a jet flies over the community, the community gets scared and hides in their houses after being told to do so, and later the announcements state that “Needless to say, he will be released.” In other words, it means that flying near the community will not be forgiven, and anyone who appears to be threatening the communities safety and peace will be released. With this, the author is trying to clarify that you don’t want to be released and that the community is highly sheltered, and unmerciful. This is important to the story, as it shows that people don’t want to be released, and it’s a punishment for those who break the rules of the community.

When a jet flew over the community, An anonymous voice reported, "Needless to say, he was released." In the book context, the pilot in training will serve brutal consequences for their rule-breaking actions. Lois Lowry is telling us that whatever mistakes were made, they will be treated professionally. This quote shows that this so-called "Utopia" also has flaws and harsh punishments. The author is keeping us off our feet and making us wonder if this community is a Utopia.

When the pilot-in-training made a wrong turn and flew the jet over the community everyone was ordered to evacuate inside their houses. After this, the Speaker announced, “Needless to say, he will be released.” In other words, the mistake wasn't going to be forgiven easily. And the pilot-in-training would be punished severely for disrupting the daily life of the community. The author is trying to make us see that even though everything seems perfect, there are major flaws in the community where they are secretive and take harsh action just to teach people a lesson. This quote is important because it shows how people who make mistakes and disrupt the community are dealt with. And it is similar to the many real-world events where people have tried to fix problems the wrong way.

When a jet flew over the community, everyone was scared, and the speaker announced that everyone should take cover. After a while, the speaker announced ¨needless to say, he will be released.¨ which meant that his actions made the elders mad, so then he would be released/killed for disrupting the community. The author is trying to show that the elders or whoever the speaker is were not expecting this but are still following the pilot's rules: If you make a mistake, you will be released. This quote also had a significant impact on my thinking about the power of the elders and that they control everything because he made a mistake he was released and also later on when his mother introduced the pills where it took away his memory of emotion and the recreation room with the apple.

When Aircraft passes through the town. Everyone was panicking when the plane went across. It was the pilot's mistake. The speaker says “Needless to say he will be released.” This quote means he will be punished because he made a mistake. In other words, there will be no second chance. The author is trying to make us see that mistakes can’t be taken or there aren’t second chances. This quote is important because just one mistake can lead to chaos. For example, the cause of World War 1 was the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Just one mistake led to one of the biggest wars in the world and millions of people died in World War 1.

The author is trying to make us see that a small mistake can end really badly. This is really important because this means that the elders do not allow any second chances and if you make a mistake you will be released and it shows how the elders donn really have empathy.

In the story, the speaker states, “Needless to say, he will be released” after a future pilot accidentally flies a plane over the community. This implies a severe consequence for a minor mistake, as "release" refers to a death sentence in this society. The quote captures the fear, as it is said when everyone is inside, scared by the incident. The author highlights the harsh reality that any infraction against the law, no matter how small, can lead to consequences. The community's elders enforce such laws to maintain safety, fearing potential dangers from overhead planes. This passage has significantly impacted my understanding of how unfairly people can be treated. It shows the chilling reality that harsh punishments can be normalized, emphasizing the need to evaluate societal norms and to ask questions when faced with them.

“Needless To Say, He Will Be Released,” states the speaker after a pilot makes a minor mistake and flies over the community. The purpose of saying this is to show how this is normal in their community. If a mistake is made it will lead to “release” which is death. In this time of the story Jonas has a sudden anecdote about when he felt scared., which was the time the pilot flew over the community. This quote shows how mistakes are not tolerated and accepted in their society and a minor, tiny mistake can lead to their death. This quote reveals an unfair view of society and how there is such a brutal punishment for a mistake. It also shows how this is normal for their world and is unfair and cruel as mistakes are bound to happen. This quote shows how lucky we are that mistakes are tolerated and the rest of the world is not that lucky and forgiving. This makes the world seem cruel and unjust. This shows how unrealistic the expectations of our world is and how harsh it can be.
