Geographically, Haiti is located in the Caribbean next to Dominican Republic.Haiti won independence from France in 1804, making it the second country in the Americas, after the United States, to free itself from colonial rule. However, Haiti had numerous political chaos on their government and rights.Essential to the productivity of Saint-Dominique(the capital of Dominican Republic today) as was its extensive slave holding system, which was said to have been particularly cruel and abusive. At the peak of the island's prosperity, the slave population totaled at least 500,000. In fact, Haiti is located next to Dominican Republic which would have had an influence on human trafficking. Over time, Haiti has been struggling with poverty due to natural disasters and population. Due to this, problems like human trafficking have increasingly risen over the years.

A major problem in Haiti is their population at over 10 million. Population is also increasing at a rate of 1.34%. If this continues to happen Haiti will have even more poverty which results to death. In fact their GDP Per Capita is expectionally low which is equivalent to a low standard of living. Also contributing to poverty and death. The country’s most vulnerable communities due to natural disasters continue to face environmental risks, such as widespread deforestation, pollution from industry, and limited access to safe water and sanitation.

More on Human Trafficking

Human Trafficking has been a problem for years now and it doesn’t seem to be getting better especially in Haiti. In Haiti, this problem happens on a daily basis from children to women to men.Haiti also has a significant problem with trafficking of children called restaveks for forced domestic labor, often in situations of extreme abuse. This occurs in when the child is put into an orphanage or left abandoned in the streets. Another reasons for trafficking may be: adoption, sexual exploitation, slavery or organ trafficking. Also poverty, oppression, lack of human rights, lack of social or economic opportunity, dangers from conflict or instability and similar conditions are common factors in areas like Haiti that want to better this issue which could start up human trafficking.

However, the effects of human trafficking on victims would often have experience harsh physical impacts due to excessive work or the use of force by traffickers. In addition, victims may be exposed to serious health risks, such as HIV/AIDS, as well as serious mental health risks. In fact, most victims deal with anxiety, insecurity, fear, and trauma. Free The Slaves is a organization that is “fighting slavery at its source”. They are coming up with ways with they are successful to try and stop this problem. Another organization for my issue is Restavek Freedom which is trying to bring back human trafficking victims back home and give them a better life. This organization has been successful by bringing home Restavek, is a child in Haiti who is sent by his or her parents to work for a host household as a domestic servant because the parents lack the resources required to support the child. These are just 2 major orangizations out of many that have contributed in the end of slavery and human trafficking.

1. I chose this topic because this topic has been a leading problem in the US. I thought about how human trafficking was also affecting other countries. Haiti was a good choice because it was good opportunity to have more of a understanding of this topic and the country.
2. Before this project, I did not know Canva,Infographic,Padlet,or Cia FactBook existed. I had no experience using the required technology.
3.Using the required technology was a good resource. HTML Coding was a great way to have all my information neatly shown. Also, Padlet is a more sophisticated way to show information instead of using PowerPoint which is a more simple way.
4. By doing this project, I have learned more on human trafficking and how it effects not only the victims but the whole country. Also, before researching about my project I thought the US was one of the worst places for human trafficking. But in fact, other countries like Haiti are dealing with this daily and it seems to be getting even worse.
5. If I were to do this project again, I would have more time-management because there is a lot of information to cover.
