Oedipus finds out the truth about life throughout the play. Everything is in a certain place and time for a reason. Oedipus will find out that fate is already set in action. He's meant to kill his father for a reason and marry his mother. Also, Oedipus finds out the truth that he cursed himself! There are actions set into play. "O god - all come true, all burst to light!" (Sophocles 1305-1306). When Oedipus finds out about his childhood, he isn't able to live with himself anymore without suffering because he caused so many people to suffer throughout his life. As a result, he gouges out his eyes.
Throughout the story, Oedipus is trying to solve the murder of Laius. Each time he finds something out about himself, however, he accuses someone for something else and rejects the truth. In the end, when he finally takes everything in and realizes the mess he's made, everyone is hurt in some sort of way.
