Challenge - As a Singaporean Malay, we are often viewed or labeled as "Lepak and smoke under block". To a certain extent is true but it is only for a small percentage of Singaporean Malay. 

Overcome -  Break of stereotype or a change of lifestyle. Rather than falling into the stereotype, we can change things like going for a bicycle ride. Can still "Lepak" but make it more of an activity/beneficial to both parties.

 I feel that by finding a group of people who can identify the same way(personal identities) in Singapore can actually help them feel more close to other Singaporeans and help them identify more with the identity of being Singaporean, due to the effect of inclusiveness.

1) Pressure of not falling into the typical stereotype I have been put on. For example, I have encountered stereotypes such as Malays are lazy and dumb. It has definitely put the in fear that if I were to have these characteristics, everyone will think that the stereotype is true.

2) Pressure of meeting up to the standard of others. There is a natural standard put on me by my friends and families that I have to do well. When I were to achieve certain good grades, I will have the pressure that I have to maintain and improve on them. If not, I will receive negative remarks from others.

3) Worrying and overly anxious about small little things I have experienced. This is my nature as I tend to be overly sensitive and I would wish to do well. I can be a perfectionist on a certain things which caused me to have this fear.

To overcome
1) Being a role model in knowing and imparting knowledge to others that not all stereotypes are true. Not everyone will fall into this category of stereotype.

2) Have my own goals and not worry about doing well purely due to pleasing others. 

3) Talk to someone who understands me and is mature. He or she can give her opinions and suggestions on how I can overcome this fear.

I always thought that 'protecting' Singapore and being 'physically stronger' as a male was subjective to every person and in my case, I feel that there are many ways to protect Singapore, it just doesn't necessarily have to be an obligatory act of physical training. I understand that Singapore is a small country with limited population, but my point still stands.

I am most definitely not physically strong for a male, and probably do not plan to be.

At the end of the day, I accepted that the vast diversity of Singaporeans still have the freedom to be whoever they wish to be, and having a few years of life taken away by NS, something that could build my national identity, isn't always all that bad.
