Women and girl’s probable had the one of the hardest lives in Athens. Girls of Athenian citizens were educated in doing household tasks by their mothers. They made clothes, blankets, curtains and decorations. They were married at 14 years old to 30 year old men. Women’s and girls’ rights were limited and to be a woman in ancient Athens was considered to be outside of the social system, Women were whatever group their father or husband was. They had no place outside their house and they could not vote, be a citizens or own their own property. Women had a very hard life and couldn’t do a lot (sources A, C, D).

Citizens had democracy and could own 50 or more slaves. They made their laws and up held them but only a male could be a citizen and could have a say in how the city was run, women couldn’t. Citizens also played a group in government as well as others. Pericles was Athens leader. Pericles was a prominent and influential. He was descended, through his mother from the powerful and historical family. He was born during the Persian war. He then carried out a building program. Pericles came in to the influence of two teachers, that he said that he owed much to. They were Anaxagoras, who was the great Ionian intellectual and Damon, his music teacher. He then became Athens leader, which made him famous as some may say (Sources A, B, C, F).

How easy or hard life was in Athens really depends on which part of the social system they are on and if you are a boy or a girl. If you are a women/girl life was pretty difficult, they had no say what so ever in anything that was going on around them. To be a boy/men in Athens it really depended on what social class you were in that showed how easy/difficult life was, if you were a men citizen you had an easy life and had a say in everything. Metics had a resemble good life but not brilliant, they didn’t have a say but they weren’t a slave either. Slaves had a difficult life they had no say, had to slave for someone but they could be free from their master and become a Metic.
