Okay, but in all seriousness, I define music by what it makes me feel on the inside. We can't always find the right words to adequately describe how we may feel in any given situation, but you can almost always find a song that can tell it better than you ever could. What's fascinating is that a lot of songs don't even have to have lyrics to still tell a story or give a message! Music is one of the few mediums that can hit you on an emotional level, leaving you feeling both free and weightless, as well as exposed and confused, simultaneously. . .It's kind of awesome!!!

I've also played violin since 5th grade, so I guess that counts for something as well! I guess you could say that I grew up listening to classical music, so I'm at least moderately familiar with famous works by Motzart, Vivaldi, Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, etc. I'm not incredibly well-versed on the different aspects of classical music, but I can identify various qualities, and I'm glad I have the connection with it that I do.

Introduction

Hey there! Okay, this is my first Padlet, so I guess I should explain what all of this means. I'll talk and use different forms of media, and try to give a little bit of insight as to what my personal relationship with music is, and how I use it the best ways I know how. We all pretty much have our own ways of using music to express ourselves, and although there may be an endless variety of music genres, it's still a pretty universal language that we can all use to connect with one another on a deeper level, whether you speak the same language as someone else or not. You don't necessarily have to be from the same state as someone, or even from the same hemisphere to be able to recognize the sound of a piano or the beat of a drum when you hear it. I feel as though music was a communication form that was developed long before humans knew anything about sentence structure or gramatical errors. Nature and the world around us provide the most raw, unfiltured music, whether it's songs from birds or calls of animals, it's always around us, and I think that's something worth taking into consideration! Nevertheless, here's a tiny piece of what music is to me!

A few years back, during high school, I was introduced to indie music, and that's become a large chunk of what I listen to now. I feel like it adequately represents my personality and how I feel on a day to day basis. One of my favorite indie songs is "Above the Clouds of Pompeii" by Bear's Den. It's one of those songs that you hear, and no matter what you're feeling, it's going to immediately calm you and put you in a relaxed mood.

What does music mean to me?

Music keeps me going. It has the power to completely break you down, but turn around and build you right back up again. Music is where people turn to when they want to take a look through someone else's eyes in a way that they might not have been able to see or experience before. It's one of the easiest ways for us to connect with other people who have similar views and emotional shifts as us. I don't really like to imagine a world where music doesn't exist. Music has saved far more lives than it had been given credit for. There are even therapy practices that are centered around the use of certain tones to ease anxiety. It's like medicine without any side effects. Music kind of means everything to me. I honestly don't know where I would be without it.
