"..I was sorry to find more mercy in a heathen, than in a brother Christian." (167) Gulliver insults the pirate, and as his punishment, is sent adrift in a canoe. The captain was still kind to him, not letting the crew search his pockets, and giving him 4 days worth of food. Perhaps this is a form of satire that is meant to show the reflecting line of kindness that comes with people that we see as heathens, and the actual evil that come from people that portray themselves as noble. (in the book, the "brother Christian")

The technicalities of this story reminds me very much of the popular TV show "The 100". To briefly summarize, civilization was moved into outer space because the earth was dying. After years of living in space, oxygen begins to run out, so it is decided that 100 teenagers who had been in prison were sent to the ground in order to test whether or not it was safe. They did not know that their home in space was dying, and neither did the people within space (other than trusted officials). Of course, the obvious connection is that there is a floating habitat in which intelligent people live, and when they go to the ground they have to figure out how to live differently. However, there are other connections as well, for the people who are living on the island (or in space) believe that they know the answers to everything, they live in obliviousness.

In Ch.7, we come across a wizard who has the power to bring people back to life. When Gulliver requests him to revive Alexander the Great, they find out that he was not poisoned, but died of excess drinking. He also discovers, "Next I saw Hannibal passing the Alps, who told me he had not a drop of vinegar in his camp." (209)
These new discoveries mimic the way history is taught in society.
