I don't know of any landowner who begrudges those children any game their father can hit." -pg 41
The Ewells are poor because their dad is an alcoholic and spends his money on buying alcohol, instead of food for his children. Mr. Ewell should not be allowed to keep custody of his children, when he is not providing them with the food he needs, and instead doing something to benefit himself. Their father is a threat to the safety of the children, by being an alcoholic. This is a social issue because there are other families who have more than enough food to survive, but the social classes are too divided, making some people more well off than others.

He could be arrested for this behavior. But, when he does it, it means his children who have "hunger pains" can finally eat. Ethically, it would be wrong to stop hims from doing this for a legal reason. So, this is an example of laws and ethics not always lining. up.
