• All treats must be store-bought (no homemade items).

• Packaging must include a full list of ingredients.

• No items may contain peanuts.

I use Canvas for some assignments, as well as quizzes. Canvas is also where many resources are posted for students to utilize in each subject area.

Assignment grades can be viewed in Canvas, but there will not be a class average as we don't just average grades in 5th grade but are determined from formal and informal assessments.

Our goal is to send a classroom newsletter each month, though at times it may come more often or a little further apart depending on classroom needs and the pace of our content. We will also have a student-created newsletter that will be sent out a few times a month! These newsletters will be shared through Remind, but they will also be archived in our Homeroom Canvas course. This way, you can easily reference them as needed without worrying about them getting lost in the Remind feed.

A quick note on grades: In 5th grade, grades are not calculated by averaging alone—they are determined using multiple pieces of both formal and informal information. The grades you see entered in Canvas will give you a close idea of your child’s progress and are helpful to monitor, but they are not final letter grades. As the year progresses, more and more content will be added to Canvas to help prepare our students for middle school.

• I do not assign formal homework during the first semester of fifth grade.

• Students are required to complete 40 minutes of iReady Reading each week [Monday-Sunday]. They will have time in class, but if it is not completed in class during the week - it becomes homework.

• I also recommend that students read at least 20 minutes daily.

Weekly Citizenship points are updated at the beginning of the following week in Canvas in the Homeroom/Information course.

Students begin each week with 10 citizenship points. At the end of each week, points will be updated in the GRADES tab. If there was an issue with behavior during the week, look under COMMENTS to find a brief explanation.

Students ending the week with 10 points have had an excellent week.    

Consistent marks in a specific behavior indicator will result in an N [needs improvement] for that behavior on your report card.

· Any classwork that is not completed becomes homework. It is the student's responsibility to keep up with missing assignments. You can check CANVAS weekly in the grades section.

· I assign a WSR for math and for science each week that is due by Friday. Students have class time, but they can be completed at home.

· I assign 40 minutes of iReady Math each week. Minutes not completed in class need to be completed at home.
