Indonesia is a really diverse country. It has 18, 307 islands but today we will be focusing on the most populated island in Indonesia, which is Java, specifically Yogyakarta. Here are some informations about Yogyakarta: Yogyakarta is located in the southern part of Java, the city has an area of 46 km2, with a population of 422, 732 (2017). The places I went to Yogyakarta are Borobudur, Prambanan and I will tell a little story about my time there.

I went to Yogyakarta first in 2016 with my family and my mom’s family. I went there for a school holiday. The first place I went to was Borobudur. The parking lot itself has a lot of things sold and I remember wanting to buy some but my mom won’t allow me. At the end I didn’t buy anything from that place. I remember being guided and told about the place’s history. I unfortunately lost all the pictures I had so I can’t show what the place was like. I remember that it was a hot sunny day and I remember being annoyed by the heat and the excessive pictures I took. My family and I walked up to the top and went back to the car after finishing the tour.

I don’t know whether I went to Prambanan the day after or after Borobudur. I went to Prambanan in a good condition but the heat was unbearable. I apparently broke my glasses by dropping it that made me extremely annoyed. I am not kidding, I used glasses since I was 6 so I can’t see anything without my glasses back then nor now. I really got mad so I wanted to go home as soon as possible so I didn’t get to see the temples one by one. Thinking about it now, I should’ve been more careful and be more patient because until now I still wonder what the temples look like inside. In Prambanan we didn’t have a tour at all so we just wandered around. In Prambanan we got keychains to bring home, I am pretty sure I saw it last year but it probably got thrown out.

I went to another temple but can't remember the memories, that temple is Dieng. My uncle rented a house for the whole entire family to stay in. It was a 2 story house. The house that I stayed in was painted in beautiful colours, mainly teal and white. I slept upstairs with my younger cousin (Jessica), my mom and 1 other person I don’t remember who. Since it was a holiday, I slept late but woke up early. How? I was able to wake a certain time in the morning even if it is 3 in the morning as long as I was used to it. On some cold nights we made instant noodles and sometimes on chilly mornings Jessica, Joseph (her brother), and I went for morning walks. You can say it was very peaceful.

The song that I really like to listen to Pretty’s on the inside. In my opinion, that song tells us to appreciate ourselves. The lyrics are really meaningful to me. Pretty’s on the inside also tells us that being pretty doesn’t have to look like one good looking person as long as we have a good personality. The song helps me to understand what it is like to appreciate myself. I grew up in a school where nearly everybody hated me to the point where I got bullied. But when I listened to this song, I felt like I understood how to love myself.

In one of the parts of lyrics it says, “But mama, she said to me, one day my love you’ll see” or “Cause mama, she said to me, one day my love you’ll see” and after that it says “pretty’s on the inside, see it in your own eyes, look a little closer in the mirror tonight.” I can relate to one part here. I don’t have a close relationship with my family, so basically I can’t tell them what happened to me, I don’t trust them to the point where I trust my friends much more. But every time I feel down, my friends will always remind me that I am good enough and that makes me much better. Through that I can relate to these parts of the song.

The trip to Yogyakarta was unforgettably amazing. This travel experience was amazing, wonderful and unforgettable. There are more words to describe the experience but out of all, those were the most fitting one. Every memory was so unforgettable that after 4 years I could still remember it. It was so wonderful that thinking about it makes me smile. It was so amazing that I still talk about it. The points that I was able to catch while reading was that how a travel journal can be useful when we forget about that memory and that we can put a lot of things in a travel journal that the simplest things such as tickets can be in it. Since I don’t have any pictures nor things I kept from those times, I try to explain the events and what the objects that I had looked like.

The song that I chose isn’t my favorite, in fact I kind of dislike it. But the reason why I used that song was because of the heart warming lyrics. I chose that song because the lyrics made me feel like I am being comforted and that someone was telling me their experience and trying to make me feel better. The part that I can relate with the experience was the chorus.

I went on this trip in the condition where I didn’t want to come and wanted to come. I was scared that people will judge me for my looks. So I can truly relate the chorus of pretty’s on the inside with the travel experience. The song was talking about how to self-love and appreciate yourself in any situation. The meaning behind the song makes the travel experience much more meaningful.
