Dear reader, the theme of Romeo and Juliet is Love vs. Lust. Romeo and Juliet are 2 young teenagers who think they are in love with each other. Romeo was obsessing over Roseline but she didn't like him back so he moved on to Juliet. Juliet and Romeo get married after knowing each other for one night. They were just attracted to each others looks. They never took the time to know each other and learn about each other's personalities. Their wedding led to many problems and deaths due to the hatred between their families. In my Multi-Genre Project, I made 5 Subgenres to show the theme Love vs. Lust in the play Romeo and Juliet.

This playlist is about love. Romeo falls in love with Juliet in "love" with Juliet the second he sees her. Romeo and Juliet think it is love but it is just lust. "Did my heart love till now? Forswear it, sight,/ For I he'er saw true beauty till this night" (ROM.1.5.59). It is not possible to fall in love with something without knowing what they like and dislike. They were just attracted to each other because there still young teenagers but it wasn't true love. The playlist has a bunch of love songs that show what true love would be.

Wedding Artwork

Romeo and Juliet decide to get married but they barely knew each other. They should've never gotten married because their families already hate each other. Romeo and Juliet know their families don't like each other, but they still decide to get married. They knew what they were doing was wrong, so they tried to keep it a secret. "We met, we wooed, and made exchange of vow,/ I'll tell thee as we pass; but this I pray/ That thou consent to marry us today". (ROM.2.3.62) The artwork was made by Francesco Hayez. The famous painting shows how impulsive their decision was because their wedding was small and not known. This is clearly lust.

Romeo and Juliet and the Movie Aladdin are similar. Both of the stories had similar characters but Aladdin was actually in love with Jasmine while Romeo wasn't. Romeo and Juliet weren't actually in love. Aladdin changes himself after knowing Jasmine's personality to be with jasmine because he truly loves her. But, Romeo and Juliet were just in love each other because of their looks. "Young men's love then lies hot truly in their heart, but in their eyes." (ROM.2.3.80). This means Romeo was only "in love" with Juliet because of her looks. Jafar in Aladdin is like Romeo's and Juliet's parents. He doesn't want them to be together and tries to split them up. The genie reminds me of the friar and the nurse. The genie sets Aladdin and Jasmine up just like how the Friar marries Romeo and Juliet.

Therapist note for Romeo

This therapist note is for Romeo. Romeo is very impulsive and decided to get married to get married to Juliet without even knowing her. They wanted to run away to Mantua after they got married because it was unsafe for them. "And light thee on thy way to Mantua./ Therefore stay yet. Thou need'st not to be gone./ (ROM.3.5.15). The therapist note is written to convince Romeo what he is doing is not right and it can lead to many problems with their families. This connects to the theme because it shows how there impulsive and only attracted to each other's looks. If they truly loves each other, they would spend more time thinking through their decisions to get the best outcome instead of rushing everything.

Vinyl Sticker

The sticker shows Romeo falling in love with Juliet after seeing her for the first time. After Roseline didn't like Romeo back, Romeo was even more desperate to find his "true love". When Romeo kills Tybalt, Juliet is more concerned about Romeo than her cousin. "Give me my Romeo… He will make the face of heaven so fine.” (ROM.3.2.21). This quote is about how Juliet admires Romeo for his appearance. Romeo or Juliet never talk about how they like each other's personality in the whole play. They were just young teenagers who think they fell in love but it was just Lust.
