    We know for sure that there were changes around the world in so many aspects of life. But education was one of the most affected because of the shutdown. Students were not able to learn the same way they were used to. Basically, everyone had to adapt to this new situation and they were expected to do so very quickly.

    Shift to remote learning

    Socioeconomics was a problem during the shift to remote learning because not every student had access to technology. Therefore, resources were needed, and not everyone was prepared for this shift. Especially the low-merge communities that had to shift to online learning and they were not knowledgeable about this change in education.

    What was learned from the pandemic?

    Students were able to realize that in-person classes are really needed in many aspects. We can involve the socioemotional, academic performance, and involvement in a group. Definitely, we learned that we needed a classroom to be able to receive feedback from the teacher right away. To feel part of something and know that you are supported. An example I can give is from the school I volunteer at where the school is well aware that they have students who still face a language barrier with English. For this reason, the school has now been able to understand the linguistic background of their children, and these children are being given special ESL classes as part of what the student needs. When a school is able to understand the needs of their students is when the school is able to sympathize and fully give a voice to the needs of their students. Understanding their backgrounds may also consist of understanding where they come from and what they may live and experience at home and how the school can help the student. The approach given in the classroom is something of extreme relevance and importance as the student interacts in the classroom all day. For this reason, having teachers that are able to sympathize with the student's situation. When a student and family feel supported by the school they are able to feel seen and like they actually matter to the school. Understanding a student's background may also consist of getting to know what the student is going through at home and how the school can help. How to make the approach of the class inclusive and not judgmental in case a student may be going through something. Keeping in mind everyone in the classroom is elemental.
