For Classroom transformation, I created a lesson where 6 stations would be needed. This cannot be completed in traditional desk rows. I have science tables in my classroom, so I moved them into 6 groupings for groups of 4 students. I included chairs for students who want to sit but they are welcome to work standing. In the past, students completed the graphic organizer on paper, but I was able to upload this activity so students can complete it on their chromebooks. Student learning is impacted by their choice of completing stations at their own pace, sitting or standing and moving around the room.

Transformation Classrooms- Space Centers (V. Chapman)

I created a lesson that moves my classroom into pods of 5 desk. Each pod will have 3-4 students in it. Students are exploring information about space exploration and astronauts. They spend approximately 30 mins in each station. Within in station, they have a different task to complete. They are able to share ideas with each other and watch videos about various topics. This module was beneficial to my professional growth because I was able to think outside of rows and seat work. I like for students to have the opportunity to work together and I don't mind movement within my room. I do feel that this will positively impact students because they get to share ideas but then they also have to independently do the writing and actual work in the packets. They are held accountable for the work that they do. Students are giving choices within each center to pick from which they like. If students have a choice, they feel they are doing what interests them and I have found they are more productive in the work they complete.

This year I have tried to create a calm, safe, learning environment for my students. Not only do we have multiple options for flexible seating we have created a calming aura in the room by placing blue light filter on the ceiling lights to block out harsh lighting. We are also using lamps and natural light as well. One lesson I created to go along with classroom transformation is taking place in our social skills block. The lesson is titled Nurture Group. Students get to choose what they sit on during this lesson (bean bags, crate seat, bucket seats or large pillows). Once students pick their seating they will all sit together in a circle as a class. I have a very small class (4 students) so this could vary per classroom. Students will then begin the teacher led lesson where students will work in partners and whole group. One objective of the lesson is for students to feel safe when opening up about topics that may be uncomfortable for them. I feel that having them sit together as one in relaxed seating creates a more open environment for sharing - Mandy Weisend WES

I created a lesson that allows students to sit in a large circle with a smaller circle inside. This allows for students to participate in speed dating for geometric transformations. Students are provided a transformation that the student describes to their partner using only specific vocabulary and the partner has to ask question to determine the transformation taking place. This was beneficial for myself and students to work together solving each problem. It gave students the opportunity to rotate and work with different partners every 3 minutes. It was also interesting to see the various techniques students used in describing their transformation. I also enjoyed using it as an assessment to see which students understood how to verbally describe and identify geometric transformations.
