2) A challenge they have is that they sometimes are unable to follow complex instructions during the origami session and their hands may even hurt from even folding the paper due to them being physically less able.

2) Some of us could engage friendly conversations with the elderly despite the fact that the elderly were all mandarin speakers. We successfully taught the elderly how to fold the origami with little problems.

1) The project could be improved if we all had the knowledge to assist the elderly in folding the origami. In the future I will remember to learn more about what the project is about.

 2 things I’ve learnt is communication and interaction with the elderly. I realised that some elderly prefers to play games like Chinese chess while some other elderly prefer to share their story with us.

1 way I can contribute to my community in the future is to be more understanding and more sensitive towards the feelings of other people around me.

 

Project Management:

2 things that the class did well was the activity session and tea break. We manage to engage the elderly and let them fully enjoy themselves during the origami session. We also shared some laughter during the tea break when we were munching on our snack while chatting.

1 way the project could be improved was on the activity. We should have prepared some other games like Bingo or Chinese Chess as an alternative as some elderly may not enjoy some elderly folding origami.

1 way that I will apply what I learnt from this project is teamwork. Without everyone’s effort, the project wouldn’t go by so smoothly.

- Some of the elderly have hearing difficulties, they might not be able to understand us if we talk to fast and also too soft.- Some of the elderly have difficulties in walking long distance, they will also not be able to walk in a very fast pace.

- I can be a volunteer in the elderly care or the old folks home.

Project Management:

- Many of the elderly are very happy of the origami that they have made.

- When teaching the elderly to fold the different paper origami, the class also bonded with the elderly.

- It could be improved by learning more on the ways to teach the elderly on folding origami.

- I would need to always plan and work together with my peers in group projects.

2 things i have learnt about the needs and challenges of the elderly

- I learned that the elderly faced challenges such as climbing stairs, hard of hearing, they also take a longer time to process and take in information when we were doing our activity which was folding origamis. There was a communication barrier as i found it challenging to communicate with them as i was not fluent in mandarin. While walking from one place to another, some elderly found it hard to as it was a long walk.

- one way i can contribute to my community is by volunteering in elderly centres or even bring food door to door to the elders that are staying alone and help them.

2 success factors about the project that my care group had planned for the elderly

- I feel that the elderly had fun doing the activities and everything. The origami folding and watching the performance at the end, i was able to see happy faces and see them enjoying themselves.

1 way that the project could have been improved 

- one way it could have been improved was if all of us were familiar and well prepared with the folding of the origami so that we can better assist the elderly when they were folding theirs.

1 way that i will apply what i have learnt about the project management in future contexts

i learned that it takes more than yourself to get this thing done, cooperation and teamwork helped made this day possible and successful.

Project management: the project was a success as the elderly were happy during the activities. the elderly enjoyed themselves throughout the day

i feel that the activities during the project could have used more commitment. we did origami, and i feel that everyone should be able to do it, so as to show the elderly that we can do something that we planned.

I will use what i have learnt which is patience during group activities such as R&R because it is not good to rush things from group members too much as it is unreasonable
