Both of these character abuse their power and are refusing the idea of an unfair, corrupt court.
DANFORTH: Now hear me, and beguile yourselves no more. I will not receive a single plea for pardon or postponement. Them that will not confess will hang. Twelve are already executed; the names of these seven are given out, and the village expects to see them die this morning. Postponement now speaks a floundering on my part; reprieve or pardon must cast doubt upon the guilt
of them that died till now. While I speak God’s law, I will not crack its voice with whimpering. If retaliation is your fear, know this—I should hang ten thousand that dared to rise against the law, and an ocean of salt tears could not melt the resolution of the statutes. (pg. 129)

Women during the 1600s and the 1700s were not given any power or rights which meant that the will take any chance given to them that will provide them power. The sad fact was that through confession Abigail was able to obtain enough power to manipulate individuals around here. She begins abusing the power through threatening other girls and accusing many innocent individuals. After the girls were caught dancing in the forest Abigail decided to accuse her power by telling them,
"Let either of you breathe a word, or the edge of a word, about the other things, and I will come to you in the black of some terrible night and I will bring a pointy reckoning that will shudder you. And you know I can do it; I saw Indians smash my dear parents’ heads on the pillow next to mine, and I have seen some reddish work done at night, and I can make you wish you had never seen the sun go down!" (pg. 20).

Power is usually seen as position or a property when it is obtain it causes a lot of troubles and the individual that obtains it usually does not let go of it. this is seen in the crucible by many characters. These characters tend to act meek but when the chance is offered the power takes control of them and all of their motives alter.
