USC plan highlights areas like energy conservation, sustainable transportation, sustainable food sources, waste diversion, water conservation, and furthering education on sustainable practices on the USC campus. All of these goals are geared to finding environmentally sustainable solutions to the current problems at USC.

Newport discusses how campus sustainability movements are eco-centric and the harms that this poses. However, while Theis states that the three aspects of sustainability (environmental protection, fiscal equity, and social justice) are all important, he points out that fiscal equity and social justice both rest on preserving the environment (basically humans will only thrive if the environment is sustainable).

The USC 2020 sustainability plan is focused on switching to practices that do not harm the environment. However, does that necessarily mean that USC does not have other plans/movements/offices that are designed to discuss and find socio-political and economic solutions?

A multitude of the goals are to create other plans, further environmental education, and research statistics which is helpful but does not actually solve any of the environmentally harmful practices that USC has. Two of the sections are sustainability in education/research and engagement in sustainability. Neither of these actually change practices.

The plan does not outline how they will achieve certain goals. For example, one of the goals is to "reduce greenhouse gas emissions per square foot by 20% from 2014 levels by 2020." However, the steps are to "track and report greenhouse gas emissions" and "implement a climate action plan." USC does not share with the reader what the plan includes. These steps are very vague.

The plan is not very specific on how they will actually achieve the goals that they outline. However, this is an initial plan so does USC need to have everything figured out at the beginning? Initiating sustainable practices are not simple and require time to implement them on campus.

Is it possible for USC to implement all these changes by 2020?
How is USC affecting the community around the school with these changes? Newport argues that people should be the main focus of sustainability movements.

As a student, I am not aware of how USC is working to implement sustainable practices on the campus. Specifically, I do not know of how USC is dealing with waste/water/energy consumption. Does this mean that this is not one of USC's priorities? Some believe that universities/colleges are not necessarily the institution where changes should be made. Personally, I think that USC should focus on sustainable practices, but the government also needs to be responsible for implementing legislation that targets environmental harms. I do not see USC engaging with the students to discuss sustainable solutions or share their solutions/plans. However, should USC have to broadcast their plan to students
