The teaching and learning environment (include school name and grade level)

I observed 7th graders at Haysville West middle school. I observed two science classes, one math class, one English class, two social studies classes, one Spanish class, one gym class, one choir class, and one orchestra class.

Student-teacher and student-student interactions

All the classes I observed was fun and interesting. All of the teachers were helpful to the students. The teachers were so kind and really helped the students with any problems they had.One thing that I loved about all of the classes is that the students and teacher had classroom discussions. Instead of learning things through a book or copying notes off of a board, they simply just talked through the subjects. It seemed to help the students learn better.

School atmosphere

The school atmosphere was great to me. Very clean, nice staff and teachers. One thing I loved is in the choir class I observed there was a few special ed kids in there. I think it's sweet to have everyone come together as one and treat everyone the same. That is what schools are supposed to be like.

Interesting experiences you had (either good or bad)

When I was observing the math class, the teacher has a unique way to keep her students in a fun learning environment. The teacher has four desks in a group and in the middle is a container full of supplies for each table and a little trash can. The students can throw their trash in the bucket but if they miss you have to do ten push ups in front of everyone. The students love it. I thought it was something unique.

Future Application - How will you apply what you learned to your future classroom?

This was a good experience for me because it gives me options on what grade I want to teach. I still want to teach elementary school but I liked seeing the middle school students because they are in that between stage where they are still little kids but also growing up. I want to be the kind teacher that helps her students with anything they need. I want to be fun and unique like the teachers I saw at school. Being a teacher is a life changing career and I plan to be apart of it.
