My favourite verse is the prayer of Prophet Yunus (Qur’an 21:87) : “اللَّهُمَّ لا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنتَ سُبْحَانَكَ إِنِّي كُنتُ مِنَ الظَّالِم” I really like and adore with this verse because it gives me strength whenever I face challenges or difficulties. When I feel stressed, pressured, or sitting for an exam, I will repeat this verse many times because it helps me to stay calm, get back my focus, and remember what I have studied.

I also recite Surah Al-Fatihah because we do not need long verses to ask for Allah’s help. A simple prayer from the heart is enough. This prayer of Prophet Yunus reminds me that Allah’s help is always near with us and He will ease everything for us.

I would like to encourage my beloved friends and my big family to practice this prayer especially when they feel nervous, lose confidence, or face the problems. InshaAllah, this verse not only brings peace to our heart but also makes the soul stronger to face any situation.

During the first week, we had a simple introduction session to get to know one another as usrah members. After that, our assistant (Sr. Adrianie) explained the assignment which are the roleplay and the e-portfolio.

Then we continued the topic for this week :

Adab of seeking knowledge

Adab of the Qur’an

For the Adab of Seeking Knowledge, I learned that we need to have both outward and inward manners. Outward manners include preparing for class, taking notes, asking questions and reviewing the lessons. Meanwhile , Inward manners include having the right intention, showing respect, being consistent and setting clear goals. These adab remind us that learning is not only to gain information but also to become better Muslims.

For the Adab of the Qur’an, I understood that the Qur’an should be treated with care and honour. Among the adab are reciting with wudhu’, reading calmly and not too fast, starting with Ta‘awwudh and Basmallah and sitting in a respectful manner. We should also never place other books on top of the Qur’an, close it properly when not reading, and try not to let a day pass without looking at it.

Overall, this lesson reminded me that the Qur’an and knowledge are not only for learning but it also for guiding us in our daily life. Practising good adab will help us improve ourselves and strengthen our faith.

These pillars are closely connected to Hadith Jibril and the pillars of Islam as they guide Muslims not only in worship but also in building strong faith.

• Believing in Allah means recognising Him as the only One worthy of worship, performing the five daily prayers, reflecting on the Qur'an and observing His creation.

• Believing in the angels reminds us that even though they are unseen, they watch over us, record our deeds and deliver Allah's commands.

• Believing in the revealed books especially the Qur'an because the Qur’an teaches us to value it as the ultimate source of guidance, a miracle in its language and content and a proof of Islam's truth.

This lesson reminded me that Iman must be reflected through actions not only words. When we truly practice it, our faith becomes stronger and more meaningful in our daily life.

For usrah today, we focused on the next pillars of Iman: belief in the messengers, the Hereafter, and qada’ and qadr.

•Belief in the messengers means accepting that Allah sent prophets to guide mankind with the same message of tawhid. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, as the final messenger, was sent to both humans and jinn, and his life is the best example for us to follow.

•Belief in the Hereafter reminds us that every action will be judged and that our ultimate goal is to attain Paradise. This motivates Muslims to increase good deeds, remain patient in hardship and stay sincere in worship.

•Belief in qada’ and qadr teaches us that everything happens by Allah’s will and knowledge. Accepting this pillar gives peace of mind, strength in facing trials, and helps us live with humility and reliance on Allah.

Overall, this lesson showed me that these pillars of Iman complete our faith and guide us to live with trust and gratitude.

For usrah week 5, we learned about Ihsan and Islamic Eschatology (the Hereafter and Judgement Day).

•Ihsan means worshipping Allah as if we see Him and knowing that He always sees us. It is the highest level after Islam and Iman because it guides us to perfect our worship and character. A person who lives with Ihsan becomes a person of virtue and always seeks Allah’s pleasure with sincerity.

•Islamic eschatology is the belief in the Hereafter, the Day of Judgement and Hell. The Qur’an and Hadith describe its signs, such as the coming of Imam Mahdi, the appearance of Dajjal, the descent of Prophet Isa a.s. and the appearance of Ya’juj and Ma’juj. These remind us that life in this world is temporary and that every soul will be judged for everything it has done.

This lesson reminded me that Ihsan and eschatology are connected. Ihsan prepares us for the Hereafter by motivating us to worship sincerely and do good deeds, while belief in the Hereafter makes us more serious in living righteously.

Overall, I realised that true success is not in this world but in the Hereafter by seeking Allah’s mercy.

Every week, I learned something new that improved my understanding of Islam, from adab in seeking knowledge to the pillars of Iman and the importance of Ihsan. The discussions also reminded me to always act with sincerity, humility and awareness that Allah is watching us. Besides knowledge, I also gained friendship and a sense of belonging in my usrah group. Overall, this usrah has guided me to be more disciplined in my learning and more conscious of my role as a Muslim.

I think our usrah sessions are already beneficial and meaningful but they can be improved by adding more interactive activities. For example, at the end of one session, we played a game together and it made the usrah more enjoyable and engaging. Activities like quizzes, group discussions or short games can help strengthen our bond as usrah members while making the learning process more fun and memorable. For the next semester, I also suggest that usrah sessions be held at venues closer to each mahallah, so that it will be easier for members to attend regularly and feel more comfortable.

According to the Quran, this state is a mark of a successful believer.

Through praying with Khushūʿ, a person can build a strong Islamic character based on five core virtues:

•	Al-Ta’ah (Obedience and Loyalty): Cultivating sincere discipline and obedience to Allah’s commands.

•	Al-Jihad (Inner Struggle): Fighting laziness and worldly distractions to maintain focus on Allah.

•	Muhasabah (Self-Reflection): Providing moments to evaluate and improve oneself from sins and shortcomings.

•	Iffah (Purity and Self-Control): Guarding oneself from sinful and wrongful actions.

	  •	Tawaḍḍuʿ (Humility): Worshiping with full humility and removing pride.

Prayer performed with Khushūʿ is not merely a ritual to be done five times daily; it should be a way of life that strengthens the relationship between the servant and the Creator. This deepens faith, enhances self-discipline, and makes prayer a source of spiritual strength.

Fasting is a vital act of worship prescribed for all Muslims as a clear expression of their faith. This obligation, mentioned in the Quran (Al-Baqarah: 183), reminds believers that fasting is not only a physical act but also a spiritual practice rooted in sincere devotion. It was also mandated for earlier religious communities like Jews and Christians, showing a shared spiritual heritage and encouraging Muslims to uphold and excel in this practice.

The purpose of fasting is to develop Taqwa, or God-consciousness:

	•	Linguistically, Taqwa means to guard oneself from harm.

       •	Umar (r.a.) compared Taqwa to carefully walking on a path full of thorns.

       •	True fasting involves more than avoiding food and drink; it requires leaving behind lies and sinful actions.

Fasting helps build two main virtues:

       •	Sabr (Patience): patience in following Allah’s commands, avoiding His prohibitions, and enduring difficulties.

       •	Rahmah (Compassion): hunger teaches empathy for those in need.

       •	Generosity: providing food for others to break their fast grants the giver the same reward without reducing their own.

Imam Al-Ghazali outlined three levels of fasting:

       •	Basic: abstaining from eating, drinking, and marital relations.

       •	Intermediate: controlling limbs such as tongue, eyes, and hands from sin.

       •	Highest: purifying the heart from worldly distractions that draw one away from Allah.

Everything begins with the command of Allah SWT in Surah At-Taubah, verse 103. Through this verse, Allah commands us to give zakat to purify and cleanse our wealth.

Zakat means to grow and to increase. It involves sharing a portion of our wealth with specific groups of people at a fixed amount. The money given through zakat helps others and brings barakah (blessings) to our wealth.

Purpose of Zakat : The core purpose of zakat is to pay and help those in need. By helping others, our wealth becomes more meaningful and blessed.

Zakat and Other Financial Acts :

1. Zakat vs Tax

	•	Zakat purifies wealth and is an act of worship.

	•	Tax generates financial resources for the government.

2. Zakat vs Sadaqah

	•	Zakat is obligatory, whereas sadaqah is voluntary (sunnah).

	•	Zakat has specific rules and pillars.

	•	Sadaqah can be given anytime, anywhere, without fixed conditions.

In Islam, zakat is as important as prayer. In the Qur’an, prayer is often paired together with zakat. Allah frequently mentions zakat, highlighting its great importance alongside salah.

There are two primary types of zakat:

	•	Zakat al-Fitr

	•	Zakat al-Mal (Zakat on Wealth)

A very important value in zakat is tawakkul. Tawakkul means putting trust in Allah after making effort. It is not just relying on Allah without taking action.

Connection between Zakat and Tawakkul

	•	We give zakat because we trust Allah and place our hope in Him.

	•	A believer gives zakat knowing that every good deed is rewarded.

	•	Practicing zakat reflects the quality of a true believer.

Strengthening Brotherhood (Ukhuwah) : Zakat helps Muslims who are facing difficulties. It shows that we care for one another and are not selfish. It strengthens unity and compassion within the Muslim community.

Three Benefits of Zakat

	•	Earn rewards from Allah.

	•	Reduce attachment and dependence on wealth.

	•	Build empathy, care, and social responsibility towards others.

Throughout this semester’s Usrah, I realised that the topics we covered are very close to my heart and life. Many of the lessons are things I have known since I was a child, but revisiting them helped me to easily recall and apply them again. Sometimes, as we grow older, we tend to forget even the simplest things.

Besides refreshing what I already knew, I also gained new knowledge. Some topics I only understood generally before, but this semester, I learned more detailed explanations that deepened my understanding.

For example, we discussed acquisition of knowledge, sources of ibadah, the foundation of prayer, virtues found in solah, the importance of khusyu’, fasting and its virtues, tawakkal, zakat, and more. These are fundamental in our lives, and though they have been familiar to me since childhood, sometimes we take them for granted and forget their importance.

This Usrah has reminded me to value these teachings more sincerely and to implement them with greater awareness in my daily life.

IMPROVEMENT SUGGESTION

I feel that our usrah assistant has put in a lot of effort by organizing various games during the sessions. However, most of these games are played while we are seated in one place.

To attract more attention and increase engagement, I suggest we diversify the types of games. For example, instead of only playing seated games, we could include more active games like radio rosak (broken radio) or treasure hunt activities, which involve moving around.

Adding more dynamic and physical activities, even outside the usual meeting area, can make the sessions livelier and encourage greater participation from usrah members.

The video above is a roleplay by our group which highlights the benefits of having a good niyyah.

So, in this part, I will explain the first and second benefits.

Firstly, having a sincere intention can turn our daily actions into acts of worship. Simple activities like studying or helping our parents become ibadah when they are done for the sake of Allah.

Secondly, with a good niyyah, Allah rewards us even for small actions, and sometimes even when we are unable to complete them. This shows Allah’s mercy towards His servants.
