August 15, 1948– the republic of korea/south korea is established. The democratic people’s republic of korea/north korea is also established. This when korea is first divided.
January 12, 1950– the secretary of state vaguely talks about the protection of the pacific, and basically points out there is a possibility the could attack other parts of the pacific– korea. This is just important now because we know what happened.
January 17, 1950– the korean leader of the north proposes they liberate south korea to the soviet leaders. This is significant because again, it’s hinting to war.
June 25, 1950– 100,000 north korean troops go across the 38th parallel, initiating the start of the war.
June 27, 1950– the US passes a law in order to help korea in the war.

It was a large part of the cold war because neither country wanted to spend millions on a whole war, so they just spied on each other for the whole war. Countries use this same strategy nowadays to make sure they dont have many casualties. Look at the Iraq war. We spied all the time in that war and had under 1 million casualties.

“Korean War Timeline.” Encyclopædia Britannica, Encyclopædia Britannica, Inc., https://www.britannica.com/list/korean-war-timeline.

National Geographic Society. “U.S. Enters Korean War.” National Geographic Society, 27 May 2014, https://www.nationalgeographic.org/thisday/jun27/us-enters-korean-war/#:~:text=U.S.%20troops%20occupied%20the%20southern,war%20for%20the%20Cold%20War.
