Week 1. Djembe.

This week in the workshop we had the stimulus of a djembe. Initially we got a little bit stuck with what we could do, we wasn't that good at analysing deeply. After a little encouragement and support from Michael we managed to get a topic. Love. When we came up with this topic the first thing that came to mind was a blues rock based riff. It was one chord with two notes played before in a typical blues fashion. We had two different groups within us contributing, we had the vocalists writing the lyrics in a separate room whilst me our guitarist, bassist and drummer created the instrumental.

In this weeks workshop we created a song based on the blues. The rhythm was a simple 4/4 beat with the guitars following suite with a steady "rockabilly" kind of vibe. The vocals were rushed but did seem to work okay with our instrumental. In hindsight the project would have been much better with a less distorted guitar tone and a tighter instrumental and if we rehearsed it properly. It wasn't very tight which was our downfall. The lack of communication contributed to this. In order for us to succeed and achieve a good end product.

week 3. storyboard.

Week 3 we started work on our storyboard. Me Michael and Jacob created a very heavy instrumental which was rooted from metal, the chords were just E and E sharp played in a fast 4/4 beat. Unfortunately the rhythm and style of music didn't work with Maddisons vocal ideas. If we all contributed for the lyrics too it would of worked better. The lesson learned from this week was music needs to be nurtured on all aspects for it to be a good project. We ran out of time and had to carry on the next week.

In this week we had a basis for the days work, our chord structure although this week we mixed it up and added a few trills and an octave part. Michael switched from bass to guitar this day which gave us a more open ground for guitar parts albeit we had no low end. The way we versed the guitars was fast paced which got good reception from our peers saying it fit in with the storyboards feeling of a chase. Ill admit myself though it lacked actual story structure and was abit eratic.

week 5 i wasnt in college to attend the lesson but in week 6 we finished off what the others started in week 5. My memory isnt very good of this week, I think we made an improvisation to compensate.

week 7 saw the start of our own stimuli. In all honesty the group didnt work well this week, we managed to sort out a chord progression i could make an improvised solo over. weve still got one more week to work on this and i hope itll work, we used the stimulus of bonfire night. I think it would be better if we all agreed on arranging things instead of having conflicting ideas.Next week well see how this project will play out. In week 8 we mananged to pull it off we had a good structure and actually had something to perform. It wasnt the best performance as my tone was abit overpowering and i didnt use the right notes at times but we just went with it and it worked. If we spent more time creating a more intricate piece i think we would of had better reception but our peers actually had some good views on it even though it was very basic

These two weeks I have worked on my own stimulus which was loss. I made up a saddish minor styled broken chord picking riff based on the a g f and b chords which then progessed on to open chord strumming. the chords were A minor G E minor and barre f which then went back to the picking riff then a power chord section. This lasted for 3 minutes and if I'm honest I'm proud of it. it could have been better with bass and drums and an extra guitar with maybe a distortion part. If I had a looper this could have been achievable. Along with this I could have added a melody over it to accompany it a s a vocal line.
