As I grew older, I would use flash cards or take notes in order to study; constantly missing questions I've studied for and knew the answer to wondering what i did wrong. In order for me to fully grasp the understand of what I missed in the question, I should've taken the time to read and fully comprehend my texts or notes before copying notes down in order to summarize what I read and what I believed the theme or overall purpose to be in my own words. Practicing Metacognitive study strategies.

I don't think I have ever used a study strategy before or ever really studied aside from just reading the note from class. But by using metacognition I could probably figure out how to best teach myself information. If I figure out how I think I could figure out how I learn.

When studying, I tend to go over the main points of the lesson while writing key factors. Using metacognition would help me pace myself better and depict which information is truly necessary for true understanding. With the way I organize and set up my notes, this would also help me be more effective in understanding not just a linear perspective of the material, but an overall understanding of all possible challenges in the lesson so I can problem solve efficiently.

In the past I have reviewed materials for an upcoming test, like books, assignments, notes. Which has helped, but I would take in all the information in one setting. Using metacognition, I think would make this strategy more effective by taking breaks and coming back to the material more than once, and at different times, to really give my brain time to process the information. Taking breaks while studying and coming back also helps with remembering the material for a longer time.

Some study strategies that I have used in the past that were successful to me were breaking up the material in chunks then reviewing it over time. The one study strategies that I used most in high school was doing flashcards and having my friends read them back to me. Incorporating metacognition into my study habits would probably help me slow down and understand the topic more.

In the past, I've checked over my notes right before a test. With the way I take notes, I try to know what would be the most important or what the teacher says will be on the test. When I study my notes, I try to read a little bit at a time and stop to think about what I just read to make sure I understand it and will be able to remember it. This is already pretty metacognitive, but I know I should check my notes more often.

When I study, I usually like to highlight/take notes that I don't understand so I can come back later and review the information. Now that I am in college and am getting more information handed to me in classes, I feel like I'm going to have to use different metacognition strategies to look over every piece of information and not just the specific ones I take notes of.

In the past, I have done flashcards and also have taken multiple practice tests before classes. These strategies were very successful until I started to memorize the order of the tests and then the order of the notecards on quizlet. I then started writing out everything that I needed to know, and had people quiz me so that I was memorizing the order. This method worked out so much better for me because it also helped me to write it down and get it into my brain.
