Cigarettes - The brain develops more nicotine receptors to equal the amount of nicotine from tobacco. Once you smoke it is very hard to stop.
Cigarettes can cause blood flow issues going to the brain. Over time tar will build up in blood vessels, blood will then catch on the tar and not move. Over a long period of time blood will clot then explode the vessel which will either severely damage or kill you. It is also a big cause of lung cancer.

Alcohol - Alcohol is a "drug" which can cause severe problems with the brain. Some issues can be; walking, seeing, speaking, memory damage and delayed reactions. It is especially bad for teenagers as it can have a devastating effect. Some long term affects could be liver, brain or heart cancer. As soon as alcohol enters into your stomach it goes through the walls therefore affecting you in minutes. Soon it will creep into your blood stream affecting you more.

Drugs - Marijuana is a main drug. We all know it is illegal. When you take this so drug your thoughts, imagination and perception are magnified. That means they are distorted. On top of that you focus on small picture and not on the big picture. When you take marijuana your neurons don't get to rest (from THC) so they continually fire where as a normal brain the neurons get to rest in between information. Also memory learning, coordination, cognitive function and movement control is affected.

Depression - Depression is where you worry too much about the past. Sad feelings last a lot longer than they usually would. It occurs when a big shock comes. Like if your cat gets run over by a car. You would miss your cat a lot and would be really sad about it. It can also cause Insomnia (not being able to sleep at all). A way to help get rid of depression is to go see a psychologist, they will give you strategies.

Anxiety - Anxiety is sort of the opposite of depression. It is where you really over worry about something/s in the future and get really stressed. It can cause Insomnia, high stress, and lots more. If you find out you have it, go see a psychologist, they will give you strategies.

Optical illusions are images or pictures that we see/perceive differently than what they actually are. In other words, optical illusions happen when our eyes send information to our brain that tricks us into seeing things that aren't happening.
Optical illusions use colours, shapes, and patterns to trick or mislead our brains. There are lots of different types of optical illusions, and there are some really famous ones too.

Concussions are a type of brain injury, one that you can't see. Concussions occur when your brain knocks around in your skull. It most often happens when you get a knock to the head, but it doesn't have to be directly to the head, It also doesn't mean getting knocked out.
Symptoms of a concussion include: confusion, headache, fatigue, dizziness, sometimes moodiness, nausea, and a general foggy feeling - like your brain has a bad wifi connection.
If you have a concussion, or think you might have one, tell someone immediately. Your brain needs rest to heal.
Also, be careful in sports, especially contact sports. Lots of knocks to the head can cause Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (or CTE if you never want to have to pronounce that again). It means there is little or no white matter in the temporal lobe. That isn't good news.
Bicycle safety - Please wear a helmet. It protects the skull from direct injury/contact IF (and only if) worn properly.

Cerebral palsy is a brain disorder that tampers with muscles. If you are born with cerebral palsy you suffer from muscle loss. It can make things tricky because if you have cerebral palsy it is normal for the muscles to be weak and contact so drawing, catching or holding anything is hard. It can also be hard to control movement and coordination skills are low. It can majorly effect speech even can disable it. Some people with a bad case of cerebral palsy cannot move properly and have talking tablets. Balance is key when you walk so it is hard when you have cerebral palsy. Some people prefer a companion dog instead of a person to help them get around.
