Ollie's Character Description

Ollie is a kid who is allergic to electricity and lives in America. His whole life, he has grown up in house in the woods. His father had passed away when he was younger. I guess that the only father type of person that Ollie has in his life is his doctor, Auburn-Stache. One trait that Ollie has is that he is really smart and intelligent. Ollie is a person who has these traits because he basically reads a lot of books since that is almost his only pass time. Ollie is also a really creative and skillful kid. He is creative since he can build a lot of things and he has a lot of theories on different things and he can build Origami. Ollie would also fall into the category of being skillful because he has developed a lot of skills and ways to do things more differently and interestingly than others. Another trait that describes Ollie is that he is enthusiastic. He really tries to be really positive most of the time.

Moritz's Character Description

Moritz is a kid who has no eyes and his heart is pumped up by a an electric pacemaker. He lives in Germany. He s slightly older than Ollie. Moritz isn't bind even though he doesn't have any eyes. He learned how to know how things look by the sounds their body produces. He developed this skill when he was a baby because his mom used to work in a laboratory and the only thing Moritz's mom did was test on him with different kinds of experiments. Moritz attends a public school unlike Ollie who doesn't even attend school because of his allergies. Moritz isn't that popular in his school. It's kind of obvious why anybody would be reluctant to be his friend. I think that Moritz is a really intelligent kid too because he knows a lot of high vocabulary and talks in a formal way of speaking. Moritz also has a little bit of anger issues because he is really quick to blame someone for something or act when something happens. He just doesn't cool down and when he gets mad, he spews like volcano. Basically Moritz, is more of a neutral person but gets mad most of the time.

Main Conflict

The conflict of the story is that Ollie is allergic to electricity and lives in the woods in America while Moritz has a heart that is powered by an electric pacemaker and lives in a city of Germany. Ollie's doctor, Auburn-Stache knows both of the kids. But no one knows about this. Auburn-Stache decides that Ollie should write letters to a fellow hermit to make him a friend. He thought this was a good idea since there was nothing interesting in Ollie's life. Ollie writes to Moritz and Moritz writes back to Ollie. They soon both find out that if the two of them meet each other, they will die. Because if Ollie meets Moritz, he will instantly die because of the pacemaker. And if Moritz meets Ollie, then he will have to take out his pacemaker which will kill him. So that is why they will never meet each other.

Moral Of The Story

The moral of this story was that words can make a bigger difference than actions. I think that this is the moral of the story because words have a really big role in this book. The two characters are basically communicating with each other across he globe to make each other's lives better. Ollie used his words to help Moritz how to react with his bully, Larz. Moritz had used his words to tell Ollie about the mysterious laboratory. So basically, this book showed me that words hold great power.

The most interesting part of the book was when Moritz's first letter came. Because when Moritz said that he had an electric pacemaker in his heart and that they will never meet, that was really cool since that was the book title. I finally knew why they couldn't meet.
