Zehra had been living in the Kurdish town of Nusaybin, located on the Syrian border.
She was arrested after posting to her instagram account a watercolor painting showing her interpretation of the rubble of Nusaybin; inspiration of her painting found from a photo posted from a pro-Turkish military twitter account .
When the painting was discovered by Turkish authorities, the Turkish judiciary viewed this painting as an act of terrorist propaganda.
