This week I learned about accessibility through the use of colour, fonts and text while taking into consideration visually impaired users who wish to visit my site. The use of design and layout of my site can also express my style and the mood I like.

I learnt that web isn’t just a delivery system — it’s a mood. Every stylescape choice (typography, color, whitespace, motion) is already telling a story before a single word is read. I’ve learned that “neutral” design doesn’t exist; even minimalism is a stylistic argument. And working with mood boards taught me that consistency of feeling matters more than consistency of elements — a good stylescape holds together emotionally even when the individual pieces are quite different.

Something I've learnt this week is how much thought goes into designing a website, rather than just building a website that works. The activities we've done this week, like the style scapes and the paper prototyping, made me think more about the user experience and how users navigate through a website and, thus, how small design choices can completely change the way a website feels.

Something I learnt was that often the most simple designs, take a lot of work. For example, if a site is too minimalist, then ideas of accessibility pop up. Is there enough information to convey how to enter and exit pages? Are text sizes readable? But also, accessibility doesn't mean stripping back what makes a page unique. Sometimes the most interesting sites break the most "rules."

Something I’ve learnt this week has been that designing a good, purposeful website requires a lot of brainstorming and trial and error behind the scenes, and having more ideas is often better than trying to come up with the best one from the get-go.

So far in this course, I have learned that rules are meant to be broken. Oftentimes the websites we see are simple and straightforwards, yet they lack creativity. Through the lecture modules and zoom tutorials, I've been able to see various websites that break these boundaries and show that going against the norm is what makes the www and its sites all unique.

This week I learned that websites don't have to follow a single "rule" to be successful as factors like design choice, typography and navigation will create a bigger influence on people. More memorable websites go above and beyond and break the norm. I've also realised that a lot of planning and experimentation is needed before actually creating a good website!

This week I learned that a website is more creating an experience than pure functionality. I learned that the website has a variety of presentation methods. Not only images can enrich the content, but also websites with only text can be very interesting. By browsing the websites with different styles provided in the past few days, I understand that there is no single formula for designing a ‘successful’ website. Typography, font, color, cursor design, etc. are all important elements for creators to express their personality and intentions.

i've learned the importance of the planning phase in an creative endeavour. it's important to plan out what you want your site to look like, WHY it's important (accessibility, visibility) and HOW you will create it. All of this is essential prior to actually starting the coding process. I've learned in-depth planning is very important both for the site development but also so i can have a clearer picture of where my creativity is going. it's like making sure you have an aim and hypothesis before starting a science experiment

I learnt that the web is not just about making it look pretty but how the website functions and how it accommodates through these features. From discussions about accessibility and the politics behind design choices, I gained a better understanding on how these choices should be made intentionally and conscientiously to consider a wide variety of demographics who may wish to visit the site and how these choices align with my narrative (which was fleshed out with the Stylescape). Through the use of paper prototyping, the UI features and functions allowed me to explore and test my own understanding of how accessible and user friendly a site is which goes beyond the scope of merely making it aesthetic but how my website will actualise and immerse users.

This week I have learnt that website need to be accessible and I never realised the harsh reality behind needing accessible websites. I am thankful to only now be understanding what accessibility means online but I would love to take into consideration the people who may be using my site might be visually impaired so i need to ensure that my website is clear and easy to use/understand so all users feel welcome.

This week I learned that building a website starts long before you write a single line of code. Most of my time was spent planning, figuring out what my site is actually about, who it's for, and what it should feel like, before any of the technical stuff even came up. I made a stylescape, mapped out my pages, picked fonts and colours, and rewrote my concept more than once. I didn't expect that the hardest part of making a website would be deciding what to say and how to say it.

I learnt that understanding the www's evolution & what informs its eras is what will help inform your design. That nothing is designed unintentionally and trial and error phyisically is super important.

I learnt about all the different methods of preparing a web page before ever coding it. From crazy 8s to paper models to stylescapes, I never thought about people leaning towards easy and cheap options when trying to design something

This week I learnt that designing a good website goes beyond 'does it work' and 'does it look good'. The level of iteration, intention and creativity behind an accessible and interactive website feels more relatable to my previous creative works than I initially imagined. Where we're deliberately choosing colours, typography and interactive flows to express what we've been thinking of. The HTML coding aspect of website making also feels more achievable now, when compared to my initial impression of it.

I learned more about web design and the process of developing design ideas. I realised that design is not always straightforward, but often requires multiple iterations and gain inspiration from other people’s work, including not only websites but also fine art, music and other visual references.

I also learned that typography can create different moods and help communicate different ideas. User interaction is another significant aspect to consider, especially when designing a creative website. Rather than simply documenting what we have done, we should think about how to make the website more engaging, distinctive, and different from others.

The most interesting thing I learned this week is about the visual animation effects of web pages. Previously, my conception of "web page" was more of a relatively static and flat interface - text, images, buttons, or simple animation effects, arranged on a single page. But in fact, a web page can be a "living canvas": using code to generate graphics in real time, allowing the content to change according to the user's actions, and even being able to create generative, somewhat random visual effects. This made me realize that the boundaries of web design are much broader than I thought - it's not just about layout and design; it can also be a true "creative medium", with far more possibilities in visual expression than I previously thought - it's not just a single flat interface.

One thing I found interesting is Neocities itself. I didn't realise there was a free (and easy) service to host websites. Furthermore, the ability to write code outside of it, check to see how it works, and easily upload it to the site is amazing!

This week I learned a lot about typology, HTML coding, and combination of accessibility and methods of interactivity which were things I wasn't aware before coming into the lecture. It gave me a great idea about what I wanted to do with my website and how different typology reflects the mood and style of the overall website. I also learned a lot of interactivity features which prompted me to make my website more engaging rather than passive and asking them to scroll through.

As a graphic designer, this week has taught me a lot about seeing things from a different perspective in design. When I design something in the digital mediums, I never have to worry about how I'm going to move stuff, or the process of putting an image on my document. Everything is quite simple. I just have to press buttons, and they do the work for me. When designing for a website, I have to be the person doing everything. To move my text one centimeter to the left, I can't just grab it and move it to the side. I have to carefully think of what to code so I can obtain the result I want. This subject really is opening my mind to other ways of designing and is definitely making me grow as a designer.

All I can say is that I now have a new appreciation for Web Designers and the free resources provided by humans all over the world. I have a lot to thank the digital archivists who have done the work to preserve information in an accessible fashion for me across the decades. They have given a huge contribution to our culture and I'm sure are, mostly, totally unknown. Web Design is hard and the greats make it look easy. This last week I have learnt that a lot of the amazing websites I visited when I was a teenager do, in fact, still exist and there is a whole culture here that is determined to resist the corporate awfulness that gets shoved down our throats everyday. Here's to the rebels!

This week I learnt a lot about how there isn't just a streamlined method of preparing a webpage, rather you can go very experimental and explorative while thinking about a website layout. The crazy eights exercise was very good for separating people from making it perfect all the time, with the easy access of digital tools nowadays. I also feel like in my mind there was this idea that websites had to look very clean and curated, but there are websites out there that take advantage of their creative freedom while also making sure their pages are accessible to all.
