This plan also helped stretch the payment date all the way to 1988 which gave Germany another 58-59 years. This plan was a big success for Owen D. Young, the leader of the General Electric and a member of the Dawes committee who happens to be running the whole plan.

Under the terms of the Treaty of Versailles in 1919, the Ruhr region had been taken over by France and Belgium. Germany had to accept it since they were responsible for all the trouble they caused and were forced to pay war reparations to countries that were involved. The total sum for the reparation was 226 billion gold marks, which is equivalent to 917 billion US dollars in 2021. The Allies had reduced the reparation but the debt was still huge. As some of the payments were in raw materials, which were exported. Germany factories were unable to operate properly and their economy was suffering, this affected the country’s ability to pay the reparation.

During the hyperinflation, most people lost their savings because it was hard to make any profits which affected old people most. Not only that but loans from different lenders and banks in Germany went bankrupt due to their loans losing value, they ran out of cash when people stopped making the installment. This means that the people who suffer most from hyperinflation are those who kept savings and workers with fixed wages. But on the other hand, hyperinflation can benefit those with large arrears and people with businesses that have rising prices would find it easier to pay back their arrears.
