Resources are being diverted away from the LDCs (inadequate food supply) as a result/ impact of the DCs work. Thus, the root cause needs to be solved first before the after-effects.
Overeating is a long term problem, very hard to break the trend. Generation and generation of rich people eating more food.
Higher growth and accumulation of wealth over time builds up, thus people spend more money on food. Higher demand and food are being prioritised for richer people.

See if applicable, for which things are being passed down from generations
According to Harvard research, If one or both of your parents or several other blood relatives are significantly overweight.

In 2008, the estimated annual medical cost of obesity in USA was 147 billion USD due to 42% higher medical spending per capita. This can be compared to the 23.3 billion USD in 2013 that USA allocated to Poverty-Focused Development Assistance fund where food is donated to countries with inadequate food. This shows that the financial cost of obesity as a result of excess food consumption is a large problem that leads to diversion of funds from other sectors such as charity.

The habit of overeating will be passed on through generations, this will cause more severe health problems in the long run. Research shows that overeating can cause insulin resistance, in which cells are resistant to taking up the glucose that insulin is trying to deliver. This in turn keeps blood sugar levels high and over time can lead to conditions like obesity and type 2 diabetes. These are long chronic illnesses which is more severe than the short term effects faced by inadequate food consumption. With more people having such illnesses, they will be unable to do certain tasks, like working, which can affect the country as a whole. As these are long chronic illnesses, the people will be in constant pain and more resources would be needed to support them, which can be quite expensive and affect the economy of the country

As more countries are being developed or fast developing, there are more people with the access to proper food than people with inadequate food supplies, thus the problem of excess food consumption would affect a larger percentage of the population.

Overconsumption of food results in an increase in demand of food supply, thus causing an inadequate supply of food for less developed countries. The increase in price is shown by the large increase in the food price index from 2000 to 2018 alone being almost doubled with an increase of 81.7. This increase in price causes people from less well off communities to be unable to afford the higher prices of food. Thus affecting not just those who overeat, but also the communities who are less well off. This impact is shown by the fact that 275 million people are unable to afford the most basic energy sufficient diet in 2017.

The increase in consumption of food leading to inadequate food supply would lead to farmers needing to increase their crop production, either by increasing the amount of agricultural land to grow crops or by enhancing productivity on existing agricultural lands through the use of fertiliser and irrigation. However, clearing land for agricultural use have high ecological and social trade-offs and the crops are growing too slowly to meet the demand for food. Clearing land is not a viable way as it can increase the effect of climate change-driven water scarcity, rising global temperatures and extreme weather. this will have severe long term effects on crop yields. For example, the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso, one of the most important agricultural regions worldwide, may face an 18% to 23% reduction in soy and corn output by 2050, due to climate change.
