Each character goes through trial and tribulation to overcome obstacles that stand in the way of their goals. For our protagonist (Hinata) he battles with being short in a sport mainly aimed toward those with height, and overcomes it with his agility/speed. His rival (Kageyama) struggled with being a dictator on the court than a teammate. He's also patient and understanding, but becomes terrifying when angry...though he rarely shows this behavior.
Co-Captain/Setter - Kōshi Sugawara, a soothing and gentle personality for his teammates, who also acts as a pillar of support for the team.
Ace - Asahi Azumane, he's rather quiet, gentle and has difficulties realizing that he is Karasuno's ace, as he initially doesn't feel that way. As much as he feels like the weight of the world is on his shoulders, he can always count on his team to have his back.

His boisterous nature and crazy shenanigans can attract unwanted attention quite easily, which often goes badly for him. Although he hardly ever worries about the consequences of his actions, he's surprisingly considerate of his friends' feelings and insecurities.
Wing Spiker - Ryūnosuke Tanaka, a loud, hot-headed, and easily angered guy, who is no stranger to picking fights. He's  somewhat of a slacker, shown by his less-than-stellar work ethic in school and usual lateness to practices, but despite all this, he's shown to be caring and supportive of his teammates.
Wing Spiker - Chikara Ennoshita, quiet and reserved, can usually be seen with a gentle smile on his face, but can behave boldly towards the other second years. Ennoshita's the only second year who's able to control Tanaka and Nishinoya.
Wing Spiker - Hisashi Kinoshita, very anxious when it comes to his own abilities, and constantly worries about whether he’s good or not. Even though he isn’t a regular, he is very supportive of his team. 
Middle Blocker - Kazuhito Narita, appears to be a calm, friendly person who doesn't get riled up too easily. For the most part, he's very simple-minded which sometimes causes him to make rash decisions. However, he's also shown to be quite observant. Hinata's capable of reading social cues and be incredibly empathetic toward others' struggles.
Setter - Tobio Kageyama, perpetually sullen, arrogant, and undeniably short-tempered, originally came off as a typical overbearing perfectionist, but eventually grows out of those childish habits. Despite his inability to properly socialize, he sincerely wishes to do his best and is extremely passionate.
Middle Blocker - Kei Tsukishima, very blunt and will sometimes rile his teammates up due to his antagonistic nature. Despite these toxic tendencies, and off-putting behavior, he does truly enjoy volleyball.
Pinch Server - Tadashi Yamaguchi, a pretty shy person who relies on others.
