My family and I went to the nursery along Clementi Road. We picked out some pussy willows to decorate our home for Lunar New Year. My brother and I helped to place the pussy willows in the vase.

On Saturday, my family and I went out for a trip to Botanic Gardens. Along the way we spotted some chickens and roosters crowing. My brother and I chased after them and played along. I took lots of pictures of various flowers, leaves trees and bushes. I also enjoyed a short picnic with my family over there and went to the Sensory Garden. After spending a long day, we decided to go to Little India to have our dinner. We ate a sumptuous meal and returned back home. It was an unforgettable experience indeed!

This is the first time I have a play date with a friend. On our play date we make ice cream, the first time we make the ice cream was not so bad but it all ends with a mess. For example the chocolate we just smushed it in and was not melted. For the second time we learnt our mistakes and the taste of the ice cream was fantastic! We but it in the fridge because our first one it spilled so we decided that we use the fridge is much more better. While waiting we also play some boarded games. After we ate our dinner we ate our ice cream as a dessert . WHAT A FUN PLAY DATE I WANT THAT TO HAPPEN AGAIN!!!!!!

For this Chinese New Year, my cousin came back to Singapore from Hongkong. I had not seen her for a year and I was over the moon. When I saw her, I was jumping up and down with happiness. During Chinese New Year, I went to her house to play tennis. I was given a pink tennis racket from my other cousin. It was really fun learning how to play tennis from my cousins and I hope I can do that again!

For the Chinese new year celebration i went to my parents's friends house . One of the houses that i went with my family had a PUG in their house it look SO CUTE ! however the pug did not like small children . I tried to pet the pug but instead the pug barked at me! I was terrified!

My Chinese new year weekend went by like a breeze. Here's how I spent my holidays: One of the nights me and my dad went to Hillion mall. We saw a stray cat and fed it food. It was starving. Going home that night, I thought, What would have happened if I was hesitant to feed that cat. I didn't want to know. The next day we spent some vouchers on books and lunch at Plaza. Today, my mother and I went to a cat cafe called, Pat a cat. There, the owner of the cafe explained that most of the cats that you would pet in the cafe, were once strays, neglected and abandoned. She told us that if you really liked a specific cat you could adopt it. The goal was to get people to play with the cats, or kittens and fall in love with them, leading to the adoption of many of them.I enjoyed watching the kittens jump high,
trying to catch the toy I threw into the air.

Monday: I went out with my godmother and we originally planned to go to SPCA but my godmother didn't know that they did not accept walk-ins. I was disappointed at first but after knowing that we were going to a goat farm to feed goats, I was joyous. When we went to the goat farm, we saw alot of goats, big ones and small ones but we had to buy the food for them so we bought 5 packs of goat food! I promised my godmother i would pay back the money and i did(1 pack cots $5) In the afternoon, I receved my package from SPCA! I was over the moon as I opened the package.

Tuesday: I stayed home and did revision but in the afternoon I had science tuition. It was very boring and all we went through was diversity and life cycles.

Wednesday: My mother and I went to pick up my mother's godson, Jay. After that, we went to chow chow cafe, a place where you can eat breakfast, lunch and dinner while dogs are around you. There will be a room so that after you eat you can go inside and see and pet the dogs but you cannot feed. The dogs were so cute! their names were Chowblur and Chowda( chowda in chinese is (i think) overcooked and black) Chowblur was always sitting at the door and Chowda was always sleeping. After that, we went swimming and i saw a few friends there.

Thursday: My best friends from a young age came over to my house and we had so much fun! First, we made bracelets in my room and then we played badminton downstairs. We also saw a cat which was a stray and it was so cute! after that, we went up back to my house and played Nintendo. We had lunch and after lunch we continued to play until they had to go.

Friday: I stayed home and did revision.

Saturday: I went to malaysia!

Sunday: We rested at home and went out for lunch

On Sunday, Audrey, Hasun, Hui En and I went to an indoor swimming playground at Punggol Safra to celebrate Kristin’s birthday. When we went into the swimming playground we were amazed by the huge playground. First, Hui En, Kristin, Hasun and I went to the biggest slide at the swimming playground. Audrey could not join us as she said she sprained her ankle. Then, all of us played together. We did a “who can stay under the water” challenge and for the first round Hasun won! For the second round Kristin won! Afterwards, Hui En, Kristin, Hasun and I went on a few more slides and then played with Audrey at the kiddy area. Then, we went to where the big bucket, when filled with water it will pour on us, was going to pour lots of water on as and sat there. After that, we all went to shower before going to Kristin’s house. We ate
McDonald and then went to Kristin’s room to see her open her presents. Afterwards, we went to eat cake. It was a very fun and enjoyable experience indeed and I hope that I can have another fun and enjoyable experience with my friends again!

During the school holidays, one of the places I visited was the Van Gogh exhibition at the Resorts World Sentosa. The immersive experience gave us a peek into the life of the artist and allowed us to see his world through his paintings. The exhibition used video projections to transport us into his paintings. I also tried a Virtual Reality headset for the first time.

During the March Holidays, my family and I went to the Zoo. It was really fun! First, we went to see Ah Meng’s Place where he once lived.Ah Meng is a Orangutan who died in 2008. Then, we went on the tram and saw Butterflies, Otters , Pelicans , and the Emperor Tamarin. Next, we got off the tram and went to look at a show. We waited for 20 minutes and when the show started, A Sea Lion 🦭 did many tricks. The funniest part is it drenched all the audience at the first front rows. After the show ended, we went to Ah Meng’s restaurant and had our lunch there. Then, we continued our journey and saw Cobra, python, poisonous frogs, scorpions and hairy spiders. And our way back we saw giraffes 🦒 , Zebras, Meerkats and elephants 🐘. To proceed to the exit, we need to pass through a gift shop. My brother and I bought something. My brother bought an otter soft toy and I bought a elephant keychain.

It is an unforgettable day indeed! ʕ •ᴥ•ʔ

Suddenly, the girl noticed two strange objects had appeared in the sky and they were approaching them. She was very shocked. The two flying objects also caught the grandmother's attention. After landing, one of them walked towards the girl and her grandmother. He told them that that they were cosmonauts and had been on a spaceship in the sky. Soon after, the other man came for the nice man. They left together, and they waved goodbye to them.

A total eclipse is when the moon fully covers the sun, blocking the sunlight. Second, a partial eclipse. A partial eclipse is when the moon covers a bit of the sun, making the sun look like a cookie that has a small bite. Finally, an annular solar eclipse. An annular solar eclipse is when the moon covers the whole sun but the edges. Thus, we still can see a bit of sunlight.

We imagine ourselves as Alice falling down the rabbit hole or flying through the clouds as Peter Pan, with Wendy and Tinker bell. Sometimes, we want nothing more than to be the character from the stories. What's more, we might even inspire others in our class to immerse ourselves in that character's adventure.

I shared with my father about 3 solar eclipses. The first one was the Total eclipse. A Total eclipse is when the moon covers the sun. The second one was a Partial eclipse. A Partial eclipse is when the moon covers the sun partially. The third one was about the Annular eclipse. An Annular eclipse covers the sun but not completely, creating what looks like a ring around the Moon.
Warning: You should not look directly at the sun as it can damage your eyes. We should use certified eclipse sunglasses.
Note: The solar eclipse only stays for about 1 and a 1/2 years.

I shared with my Grandma that the word ''solar'' means ''related to the Sun'', while the word ''system'' refers to a groups of things that interact. In other words, the ''solar system'' can be defined as a group with the Sun. This group includes all the objects that regularly travel around the Sun, such as planets, asteroids and comets. I also shared with my Grandma that sometimes, as our moon orbits, it comes between the sun and Earth. When this happens, sunlight is blocked from reaching Earth. People who are within the shadow will experience what is known as a solar eclipse. The phares of the moon refer to the shape of the directly sunlit portion of the moon as seen from Earth. As our moon orbits Earth, the portion of our moon that we can see changes. So our moon seems to change its shape in the sky. There is four main phases of the moon : New moon, First Quarter Moon, Full moon and last Quarter moon. Outer space is an infinitely huge place with trillions of stars. Even through objects in outer space are far away from us, we can still observe them and appreciate natural phenomena as eclipses. A solar eclipses is one of the most magical things we can experience. Scientist can now predict when the next solar eclipse will take place. Hopefully, you will be at the right time and place to catch one happening.

I have shared with my mum about the types of solar eclipses. A total solar eclipse happens when the Sun, our moon and Earth form a straight line. During a total solar eclipse, something amazing happens. For people in the middle of the shadow, a black disc can be seen moving across the Sun. After a while, it will cover the surface of the Sun completely. The sky will then become as dark as night. This lasts for only a few minutes before the sky becomes bright again. The next solar eclipse is on April 20 2023.

I shared with my sister about the solar system. The planets in the solar system do not orbit in a perfect circle but takes on an egg-shaped path known as the ellipse. I also showed her the different phases of the moon. As our moon orbits, it comes between the Sun and Earth and when this happen, sunlight is blocked from reaching Earth and our moon casts a shadow on the surface of the Earth. People who are within the shadow will experience what is known as a solar eclipse. I told her that the types of solar eclipses are a total solar eclipse, partial solar eclipse and the annular solar eclipse.

I know this is not the best time to post this but during the Chinese New Year Holidays, I went to Stella's house and we made homemade ice creams. They were really yummy but what could make it even more yummy is to add more sugar. The reason why we decided to make this ice cream is because of the STELLAR reader about ice creams. It was really fun and my mom picked me up at 7:45, but I am not accurately sure weather my mom picked me up at that time. I had fun!!

I went wakeboarding with my cousin and I learnt that you need to keep your toes up or you will fall. I was wakebparding in a pond which had a lot fish. I was really scared at first but I started to overcome my fear. It was a great adventure.

During the June holidays, my family and I went to Qian Hu to buy some fishes. My brother and i decided that we get 11 fishes all together. My brother bought 3 Orange and 2 Blue Luminous Tetras, and I bought 3 Pink and 3 Green Luminous Tetras. After we settled the tank an put in the tetras, we fed them food. I named them by groups the Pink ones are called Ruby, the Orange ones are Amber, the Green ones are Emerald and lastly, the Blue ones are Saphire. We change water every week, this is the first week that we are changing water so, we took out all the fishes and put them in a small container while we were changing the tank's water, an Orange fish jump out of the container on its own and droped to the ground! The moment I saw what just happened, my jaw dropped. I have never experienced this before so I did not know what to do. Just then, my father came and scooped it up with a net and put it back into the container. My heart was still pounding like cheetah. Two weeks later, we saw some fishes fighting and found out that an Orange fish was hurt. We quickly and franticly went to buy the medicine for the fish and I named him Jerald. After we put the medicine, we went out for dinner. After dinner we came back to experience the shock of our life! Jerald was lying there and not moving! I was sad that i could not see Jerald for the last time before his death. Jerald may you rest in peace.

During the June holidays, I went to Bangkok. (Bangkok is a part of Thailand.) In Bangkok, I went to different wonderful and beautiful places like Siam. Siam has lots of malls. There is a mall in Siam with all of the branded bags and clothes. I was amazed to see all of the branded things at Siam as I didn't really got to see them in Singapore. I also went to Safari World. At Safari World, they have boat rides, animal shows and tour rides. When I rode the boat ride, I will scared of all the animals bouncing out of cages but to my relieve they were all fake. The animal shows at Safari World were amazing! I watched the Dolphin show. The dolphins were so talented, I dare not take a blink off the show. Besides going to Bangkok during my June holidays, I also celebrated my Grandpa's birthday and Father's day. My cousins were invited too. My Grandpa's birthday is the day before Father's Day. So we celebrated Father's day on my Grandpa's birthday. We had a fruit cake and played with my cousin's dog, Leia. It was a memorable June holiday for my family and I.

Monday: we arrived in Israel at about 9:30 am. We had to transit through turkey. When we got to the airport we had trouble finding our luggage but fortunately a man came by and helped us and even helped us carry our luggage to the taxi. After that we went to a hotel in tel aviv called Kfar Maccabiah. After some rest we went our again for a Japanese lunch and came back early but unfortunately there was a protest against the prime minister. There was a lot of noise but with the help of another person who was also a resident of the hotel we managed to cross safely. After our shower and some rest we decided to eat cup noodles for dinner.

Tuesday: we had a buffet breakfast with Mac n cheese and after that we went to a zoo (15 min walk). When we reached we had a bit of trouble with the entry fees but thank god someone was there to help us when we got in with a bus we saw Arabian and scimitar horned oryx, a crowned crane, waterbucks and flamingos. We also saw a lion’s den but we couldn’t find the tiger so at that enclosure I was scared because my dad said we should have a competition to spot the lion. The reason I was scared because when I spotted the lion I shouted there! and then there was a sound that sounded something like a gunshot and I was really scared because that sound just came out of nowhere. We saw a sand cat and it was a kitten unfortunately it is the only one left in Israel and it is so sad because it doesn’t even have a mom or siblings. After all that sadness and uhh scare we decided to head back to the hotel for a swim and then after that we ate cup noodles again for dinner

Wednesday: we had a buffet breakfast and the pilgrimage officially starts!!!!!  We shifted to another hotel called hotel hertzliya when we went to the beach at the hotel and unfortunately it rained but it was a light shower so we were okay and we found a few seashells so we continued picking seashells and we picked a lot. After that we ate noodles for dinner.

Thursday:we had a buffet breakfast. After breakfast we went to a place called mount carmel. After mount Carmel which was like a 2hr walk we switched hotels and after a shower we went to a buffet dinner.

Friday:had a buffet breakfast and went to the bus and after a 15 min wait we went to mount beatitudes where we switched to a taxi to go to the Galilee beach and went on a ship where the sailors put up a American flag after all that we went back to the hotel for a swim and then we went to eat Chinese food.

Saturday: shifted to Jordan and we went to check in to the hotel then we did revision as the group went to a place called PETRA and it was like from 1 to 3 hours of walking under the hot sun and it was 98 degrees and the reason I know is because my mother’s friend told us. We ate Japanese food for lunch then went back to the hotel and did some more revision after going for a 2hr swim and then went down for dinner

Sunday:came back to Israel Bethlehem and went to the star of Bethlehem the birth of Jesus and then went to the Dead Sea and you can only float you can’t swim or drink the water. We went to check in at the hotel later.

Monday: went to the church of the holy sepelcher and celebrated mean there then after that we went to the mount of olives then went to Jericho to have lunch and went back to the hotel for dinner.

Tuesday: pilgrimage ends and people fly back to America.

Wednesday: we went to the church of the holy sepulcher to go for mass.

Thursday: we fly back to Singapore and we come back on Friday 7pm.

I attended Suga's D-Day concert with my family. It was held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, on a Friday night in June. My sister and I have been fans of BTS and we finally had a chance to catch the solo performance. The stadium was full of fan chants from ARMY. With the music, dancing and lights, it was all just spectacular. The performance was absolutely enthralling. It left me with the most memorable experience.

During the June holidays, my mother brought me to the Vincent van Gogh Exhibition at Resort World Sentosa. Vincent van Gogh was a famous painter who shot himself to death. After the entrance, I went down a flight of stairs that had pictures of his paintings. After that, I went into a gallery that had information about his life. I learnt that Vincent Van Gogh lived a depressed life. In spite of that, he still painted some of the famous paintings that we know. For example, Starry Starry Night and Sunflowers. My favourite part of this exhibition was the VR experience because I could learn more about him. I appreciate my mother for bringing me to enjoy this exhibition.

During the June holidays i practiced roller skating.It was VERY tricky at the start,but with a little practice,a LOT of patience and effort,I was able to skate confidently.I also went to Malaysia with my neighbour who is also my schoolmate and we visited a drop dead gorgeous mosque which is known as the Pink Mosque (Putra Mosque).Then I went to an Arabic restaurant for my dad to indulge in his local food and for dinner we went to a finger licking Brazilian steak house!I was on cloud 9 every second of the holidays!There will be a video of me skating and a video of me going to Malaysia.enjoy!🥰🥰😊

Mary had just moved in to this neighbourhood. She was living in a two-storey house. Her house was weed-covered and dirty. One night, A loud thud came. Mary's family was very curious what was it. Mary suspect that it comes from the basement but no one dares to go down as it is very dark. Mary took up the courage to go down and look. Sweat triggered down her cheeks in frustration as she walked into the basement. She didn't know what was in front or behind her. She found out that a bottle of water dropped from the shelf that was very tall. She thought of giants but she knew that they did not exist. Scared, she ran up to her family but noticed they were gone. Mary started calling their names but there were no response. She was terrified and started looking all the rooms and noticed the door was OPEN!! Mary ran out calling their names but there was no response.

It was a thundering morning. I was new to the town, and so was my family. I wanted to look around my town to know more about the people living here, and to get to know more about this town. When I stepped out of my house door, the first thing I saw were people in rigged clothes, and I could not see a single piece of smile in this town. I said, “hello?”, being extremely confused. But more confusingly, they IGNORED me. I said it 2 more times because I thought I was just being too soft, but when I did, they still acted like I did not EXIST. I went back home as fast as I could before anything more confusing than that would happen. It was my second day living there, and already having a nightmare. I ket thinking that it was a totally bad idea to decide to live here, but as I heard, my parents said that they had no money to afford a good home. My last home was so fun and positive but this one was the exact opposite. I did not expect a HDB to be like this. Even if its cheap, that does not mean that it has to be this bad. I thought that the people who lived here were the ones that lived here longer than us and this is what would happen to their lives. I did not want this to happen to me. I did one more check the next day and surprisingly, I was getting ignored AGAIN. It was stupid of me to really think I did not exist and to do a full accurate check weather I am real or not, so I did. But this was getting really weird. I WAS ALSO GETTING IGNORED BY MY PARENTS. I knew that it was not s prank since they never pull out these kind of pranks/tricks, and there was no way because why would ALL of the strangers ignore me anyway? I killed myself (sorry for the violence you see I am not creative) to get a new life and check if it was real. God gave me a new life and everybody finally listened to me and everything looked so *positive*. That life was not mine, but I did not know who’s it was, and I did not know I got that person’s life. Well, you have come to the most weird and spooky story of mine (Fake).

One scorching hot Friday, Alexa was walking home from school when she saw a cute stray dog sleeping on a narrow and weed-covered path. She was very fond of dogs and squatted down beside it. Just as she was about to pet it, it suddenly got up and ran down the narrow and weed-covered path. Without thinking, she chased after it. However she somehow lost it, and turned around going up the narrow path, but she did not realise that she was going up instead of down the path. Alexa, not looking were she was going, accidentally bumped it something, when she looked up she saw The Haunted Tree. Someone had carved a scary face on it. Alexa was not frightened and she crept closer to it, suddenly she heard an eerie sound. "What are you doing here?" asked someone. His voice sent shivers down Alexa's spine. The voice repeated his question, But Alexa was very frightened and still did not answer. With a blood-curling scream, Alexa ran down the path, not even stopping for a breath, until she reached her house. She flung the door open, but before she could step instead her house, someone pulled her out.

One day there was a mischevious boy named billy he would always disrespect black cats.One day when he was walking home from school he saw a balck cat and kicked the cat rudely, although he thought he got rid of the cat the cat was actually following him back all the way back to his home. Before billy could shut his door the black cat managed to get in. While billy sat down at the couch to watch a movie the cat was hiding in the kitchen.After one hour into the movie he heard a scary noise from the kitchen he approached with pan in his hand when he was at the kitchen he saw a blood curdiling ghost standing in his kitchen. Since billy was a very fast runner he managed to get away from the ghost but not for long.The ghost finally managed to catch up on him and jumped on him. The ghost then said you would kick me everytime just because i was a black cat so today i have turned into a ghost to get revenge on you and killed billy and fed him to the stray dogs and the ghost ate some for herself too.

I started to rethink what I was doing in a 150 year old abandoned house, I heard people gossiping about this abandoned house that there was ghosts living in there. I shook my head and started to get to work. I thought "The pay is high to mantain this house though, I should be alright here." I took a photo and posted it on Instagram, just then I saw a very creepy dark black "person" standing behind me. I scurried out of the haunted house. Just then I just realised that the house looks very shallow and familiar.

Bennett primary in california is a place of nightmares. Just look at how totally this massive, sprawling place is. You can almost see the ghost peering out at you from one of the upstairs windows, beckoning you to come inside for just a little bit. The school was founded as a house, then became a primary school for girls but closed down in 1978 as it became more popular for men and women to be educated at the same place. Pipes froze and burst, damaging significant chunks of the building. The school is now quite unstable, and you shouldn't go inside for logical reasons, as well as the part where it's probably scary

It is July and the scorching weather is bad in Singapore. Instead of studying in the classroom we decided to head over to the two-story, air conditioned school library. When we arrived, the library was bustling with students. One of our friends suggested, " Lets head down to the basement, there is usually nobody there." We got to the basement and as we stepped in, the lights went off and the door closed behind us. We tried to open the door but it was too heavy. I have always considered myself a brave and calm person. But I guess sometimes we come across situations that test our limits. This summer while I was spending time at my grandmother's house I experienced a something unusual. The scorching weather was making me uncomfortable to stay at home and my cousin and I decided to take a stroll in the neighbourhood. An ancient house stood on the edge of a lonely cliff that caught our attention. Our curiosity got better of us and we decided to explore it. It was getting darker and we lost track of the time. Out of the blue a strong gust of wind blew across. The window panes were old and rattled noisily as the wind was howling outside. An open door creaked as a breath of wind caught on its rusty hinges. A crumbling piece of cloth fluttered through the air and a chill ran down my spine. my heart was thudding and my cousin and I clung to each other for refuge. A ray of light shone from somewhere. I glanced around and gave a startled gasp when a figure stepped out of the shadows. It was my father looking around for us. I heaved a sigh of relief and hugged him tightly. As I walked out of the house I observed that weather was as calm as the sea. It was a spooky encounter indeed and I promised never to wander around on my own again.

On a casual scorching hot afternoon, when I was walking back home from school, black ominous clouds covered the sky, and thunder rumbled in the distance. It’s about to rain! I thought, trying to seek shelter. In a distance, I saw a shop nearby, I thought to myself as I looked at the two-storey, weed-covered building, what pretty decorations there are around the building, I had never seen this shop before, I wandered how I missed seeing it? After I had gone into the shop, it started raining cats and dogs. The corners of the shop was full of dust. The shop was very dark and eerie. As I went to look around, I saw many vintage stuffs, like a knight in shiny amour and a painting from the medieval times. Suddenly, the door that I had entered from slammed shut and a beam of light shone from a nearby pillar.

The cold breezy wind brushes past my hair as I walk toward Caldecott Hill. ‘Just 3 hours there and $50 dollars made… easy’ I thought, but I was wrong. The place looked rough and mean. I had no doubt various spirits were lingering around the area. ‘I better check my phone to see the reputation of this place’ I thought. “ Staff there have reportedly seen disembodied heads looking through windows and spirits messing with costumes.” I read from an article on my phone called ‘Is Caldecott Hill… Haunted???’ Suddenly, I hear a blood curdling scream. I turn behind and what I see made me skip a heartbeat……

There was once when I was on a staycation at a two-storey chalet in Pasir Ris, together with my cousin's family. Upon reaching the chalet, my cousin sensed that the place had a weird atmosphere. He complained that he felt cold, although we were unloading our heavy luggage in the outdoor carpark, under the hot sun. We thought nothing more of it and told him to get some rest once we settled down. When night came, we had a barbeque dinner and I told my cousin to join us. However, he claimed that he had lost his appetite and still felt chilly. I told my aunt to check on him while he rested in the chalet. That night, strange encounters happened to not only my cousin, but also my sister and I. When I was about to sleep, I heard a woman's and a man's cries. I woke my sister up and she felt a gush of wind, although the windows were all tightly closed. We could not get a good night's sleep, as we switched on all the lights in our room, fervently praying that the sounds would not return. The following morning, my cousin blurted out that he saw a woman sitting at the foot of his narrow bed, dressed in a gown. I shared what I heard from my room and my mother decided that we should end our staycation on that day. It was such a spooky encounter that was unforgettable.

I was worried. There had been rumours that house was haunted since ages ago. That it appeared by itself. That it was never built by men. I had no idea what that meant, but it gave me a tingling and creepy feeling. I wished I wasn’t moving into this house….

When my father stopped the car I stayed glued to my seat, feeling creeped out from just be near the house. “Sarah stop being such a drag and get out,” Mark, my older brother said
mockingly. “Unless you want to sleep here that is.”

I rolled my eyes and reluctantly came out of the car.
Inside, the living room was large and sparse. But it also looked incredibly gloomy and sad. Our mother went upstairs to unpack as I stared at a door. Was that some black mist coming out of the room?

I was about to have a little peek inside when suddenly I heard my mother scream, “Aaah!!!Help me!!!”

Almost immediately, father, mark and I raced upstairs and found a gigantic spider on the roof. I mean seriously, it was at least my size.

As the spider crept closely towards me, father but his arm in front of me and pushed me behind him. Mark was slowly creeping back to the stairs and stared at our poor mother in horror. She was tangled up in the spider webs and all now all her screams were muffled.

Ever so slowly, I grabbed my mom’s old broken down slipper…and threw it at the spider.

It smacked the spider in it’s eye loudly and I screamed. Then it closed that eye and shook angrily, ready to pounce on me. But just then we realised it was caught in its own spider web and took advantage of the situation. Mark climbed down the stairs hurriedly and came back up with a butcher knife in hand.

I was a bit surprised. But what was more shocking was that he gathered his courage and chopped of one of eight legs.

The spider screamed with me, mine in horror and the spider in pain.

Then my older brother chopped of all of the legs in a flash, so much blood was in the room….And we just moved here! This is why you never trust a creepy house.

But after a few days, it was a bit more comfortable.

There were no giant spiders, no spider webs, no ghosts. That satisfied me, but then I realised I forgotten something as soon as I reached that door. What was inside the black and misty room. As I crept closer to the door, I was shocked and screamed. “Aaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!!!”

I know this post is a bit late, but that doesn’t matter.

Well if I want to be honest, I didn’t really do much in the June holidays.

Yes I did get a new phone but it is slow at loading and I’m sure it’s going to well-I don’t know how to explain but like, die. I feel like my phone is gonna die at any second. Permanently.

My parents finally got me a swimming instructor and my first lesson starts at 9th of July, next Saturday.

Well it was my Aunt’s birthday at 28th June. (Yes this week but it still counts because it was on June…..right??)

She had two birthday cakes because both my mother and my Auntie’s friend’s brother bought a cake for her. I have to say they were quite delicious. The cake my mother bought was a blueberry cheese cake from Cat & the fiddle, and my Auntie’s friend’s brother bought a strawberry shortcake from Paris baguette if I recall. Everybody should try those cakes, it’s really good.

And well, I spent a bunch of time with my family. Watching some shows with my mother, annoying my father, mother, brother, Auntie, granny and my helper, and well, my everyday stuff.

I rather do that then get air pressure on a plane and look at languages I don’t understand. And get dizzy from how many times the plane keeps turning.
And being so unfamiliar with the country you are so worried you will be lost that you have to glue yourself with your family. Which I definitely wouldn’t want. I think I’m satisfied just staying in my cozy and humble abodes.

It was a dark and stormy night. I was supposed to be asleep 2 hours ago. But the bright lightning flashes and thunder kept me awake all night.
I give up on trying to sleep and turn on the lights in my small HDB flat. I check my watch for the time, and it read 12am. I take a book from my drawer and start to read. That's when a particularly blinding light flashed across the sky. ln an instance, all the lights went out.
I search around the pitch black dark for my phone so l could use the torch function to see. When l finally found it, l immediately switched on my torch.
That's when it happened. A scary figure suddenly appeared in front of me! It looked like any other human, just that it was headless and was covered head to toe in red paint, which l think was blood. I could not take it anymore. I went unconscious and fell to the ground.
I woke up on my bed and found the figure was sitting beside me. Absolutely petrified l screamed, "AAAAH! Who are you and why are you here!?'' I gripped onto my blanket for good measure. The figure just stayed where it was, and then dramatically turned its body to face me. l sunk into my pillow, heart beating the fastest in my life.

In the June holidays I went ice skating on the first day. Then I went to my p4 camp which was really fun and then I went to bintan in idonesia and it was really fun i stayed at two different hotels and both of them was really nice in my opnion . My first hotel i went was named natra bintan there was alot of fun activites there and we bought lots of candys and chocalates and ate it in our room. Every for breakfast we would go to this all you can eat food buffet and we ate very delicous things my father then rented out a motorcycle for 1 full day and 6 hours but when we came to natra bintan hotel on the first day we moved into a normal room because the room my parents orded were not availalbe at that time butthe next day at 3 o clock we moved into our room which had a jaccuzi we then had a fathers day clebration even though it was too early we then went to a chinse restarunt and ate there and there was a massive lagoon there and we played there everyday. And we stayed at bintan for 4 days. We then went on slides my father payed for unlimited slide rides untill 6 o clock for us and the slides was really fun then my father payed for us to go on this roller thing i do not know the name then at night when it was our last day staying at natra bintan hotel my father took us to an abandond lagoon at 2 am and we caught crabs there it bit all of us the next day before leaving we played in the jaccuzi for a while. Then we left to go to the other hotel. At the other hotel we did some arrows and shooting then the next day we took a ferry back to singapore. When we reached singapore my father me and my sister snaked out to mcdonalds to eat ice cream even though my father said no. When we came back to our home our mom locked us out of thehoouse my sister and i started ti blame it on our fathe because we told him to take the house key when we laeave but he did not listen so we were out there for quite a long time my mother said fine i will spare you and she left the key a few cm away from the door so my father took a stick or a long thing i dot what he took but he used that to get the key so that is all i did in my june holidays.

It was late at night and I was still awake Trying to close my eyes and fall asleep, I couldn't stop thinking about the lights, suspiciously turning on every night when my parents were already asleep. I was scared but I knew that I had to believe that ghosts were just myths. But I couldn't help it. I decided to find out who and what was turning on the lights. The next day, it was cold. I went up to my parents and asked them about the suspicious turning of lights. But when I asked them, they didn't know anything about it. They thought I was dreaming and seeing things. But I knew that I saw it with my own eyes. At night, I decided to stay up and wait until I see the lights turning on again suspiciously. And immediately after the lights turned on, I went outside to look. But to my surprise, no one was there. I started to think that it was all a dream. But I couldn't help it. So I went back into my room and laid down on the bed. But, the lights suddenly turned off. And at that moment, I knew that something bad was happening.

During my June holidays I celebrated my birthday! As I when to to Japan to celebrate I and my brother was freezing when we got there as the temperature was 19 degrees! On June 22 we when to Disney land after going on 3 roller coasters! There was a huge downpour and the temperature dropped to 17 degrees!!! At that point my mouth I couldn’t feel anything! Lucky I bought a huge jacket but my brother didn’t and he was freezing cold so I gave my jacket to him because I felt bad for him and that all for my June holidays

"We are going to the Singapore Zoo!" Ms Lim announced jubilantly. Cheers filled the air as excitement lingered. Students chattered with their friends happily. My classmates and I were bubbling with excitement. We were ready to embark on a exciting journey with our class.
A week later, the day finally came. Lessons at school were cancelled because of the learning journey. Once we reached the Singapore Zoo, we kick-started our journey by going to the playground to do a quest. We had to go through the challenging obstacle courses to get the clues to achieve the mission of the quest. As the sun was scorching hot, perspiration trickled down our forehead. There were minor abrasions on our legs as we fell down at times. We were determined to be the first group that completes the quest. We did it and was the first group! There was a small token given to us for winning the quest.
After passing by many animal enclosures, it was snack time. We were famished. Our teacher led us to a shaded area to rest our tired legs and we took out our lunch boxes. Our snack did not only attract our tongues twirling our lips but also a few monkeys. There was one little monkey who looked so cute. I wanted to give it some food but it had other ideas.
The monkey lunged forward and took my lunch box away. The agile creature scampered away. At that moment, I was shocked beyond words. After awhile, the monkey dropped the lunch box as it was too heavy. My friends then helped me pick it up. They agreed to share their food with me. I should have known better when my friends pointed to a sign "Do not feed the animals".
All good things come to an end. I would never forget this learning journey as I made many meaningful memories together with my class.

I have always been fascinated by art and artefacts. Therefore, I was over the moon when our form teacher announced that our next learning journey was an excursion to the art museum.

Finally the day I had been waiting for arrived. I was so excited that I reached school earlier than usual. Accompanied by our form teacher Mrs Lim, we boarded the bus and headed to the museum. We were all thrilled to bits and chatted nineteen to the dozens. Soon we reached our destination. The sight of the majestic building always left me breathless due to its towering columns and white colour.

"Come on children! Remember not to touch anything!", the museum guide announced. Next we proceeded towards the ancient artefacts and crowded around like moths to flames. I felt like a child in a candy store as I ogled at the displays. "Move away! I can't see!" One of my classmates hissed, followed by a shove on my back. At that moment, I lost my balance and tried to grab hold of the pole in front of me. The pole toppled and hit one of the ancient artefact. A small part of it fell apart. Horrified gasps pierced the air. Everyone was shocked to the core. We were all rendered speechless and watched in horror. The scene seemed to be set in slow motion.

Mrs Lim's eyes were blazing with fury when she saw the broken ancient artefact. The girl who shoved me received a tongue-lashing for behaving so recklessly. Fortunately, we were informed that the ancient artefact could be fixed and restored to its original condition. We all heaved a sigh of relief.

The time when I visited the museum, I stood a safe distance away from it. I had learnt my lesson from the previous excursion. The experience I had then was truly unforgettable and will remain deeply etched in my memory.

The incident occurred more than a year ago but yet the memory of the dreadful scene remained deeply etched in her mind.....

As the sun set, the sky burst into multiple tones and shades of red and orange that was simply mesmerizing. The heat radiated off the ground as a light drizzle cooled the surroundings. Jane decided to stay indoors and sank into the comforts of the sofa and watched television. The kitchen was in a frenzied mess as her mother was busy cooking for dinner. She whacked her spatula noisily against the side of her wok and aroma of delicious home cooked meal wafted in the air.


Suddenly, the phone rang and her mother dashed out of the kitchen without turning the gas off. It was her best friend's call and they chatted nineteen to the dozens. Several minutes later, when mother was caught a whiff of smoke in the air and saw orange flames in the kitchen, she immediately slammed down the phone. The crackling of the fire shocked her mother. It was an accident waiting to happen.


Mother frantically tried to douse the fire that was going out of control but all her efforts were in vain. The fire spread rapidly everywhere. Jane was scared out of her wits and remained rooted to the spot.

Hearing the commotion, their neighbours rushed to their aid. The sound of the wailing sirens signalled that help was on the way. The firemen put out the fire and the paramedics assessed Jane's and her mother's injuries. They were shaken but unhurt.


A few weeks later the house was restored back to its original condition. Jane returned to her house but every time she went inside he kitchen, memories to the burning flames flashed through her mind. The experience taught her to be alert and careful with her surroundings.

One Saturday afternoon, the sun hanging high in the sky, the radiant sun rays pierced through the windows. Mary was doing her homework in her room. She was famished and her stomach growled like a hungry bear. Mary's mother was cooking in the kitchen. The aroma of yummy food being cooked lingered in their house.
Mary's mother liked to watch the evening news and it was almost time for its broadcast. She hastily rushed to the living room to catch the news while the food was cooking in the pot, leaving the fire unattended. She was so engrossed in the news without knowing the danger that awaited.
A few moments later, a strong burning smell wafted into the living room. Mary's mother wrinkled her nose in annoyance. When the smell of smoke invaded Mary's room, curiosity got the better of her and she dashed out of her room. "Mother, what is that burning smell?" Mary asked in anxiety.
Mary's mother hastened her footsteps towards the kitchen. The stove was on fire! Bright, orange flames flared up like a hungry monster. The thick black smoke fumed around the kitchen. "Mary! We've got to run! It's a fire!" Mary's mother yelled. She dialled the emergency number with fear and broke out in cold sweat. The fire spread fast, devouring the kitchen.
Shortly after, the wail of siren reverberated in the air. The fire brigade had arrived. All the residents were told to evacuate for their safety. The valiant firefighters battled with the fierce flames. Formidable jets of water doused the fire. After half an hour, the fire was finally extinguished. Mary heaved a sigh of relief. Her mother watched in grief and bitterly regretted her act of negligence. The police also put their statements on record.
This unforgettable incident was deeply etched in Mary's and her mother's mind. From then on, Mary's mother would make sure that safety always comes first.

Whistling gaily to herself, Skylar trotted down the corridor from the lift to her house. It was another tiring day after school, Skylar had to go for two tuition classes before she could go home. “Finally, I can do my homework and watch some television programmes before Mother comes home in two hours,” Skylar beamed to herself. In no time, she began to do her English homework and finished it quickly.
“Only need to finish my Math homework now before I can watch television,” Skylar thought to herself. She also rushed through it but was stuck on the last question. Instead of trying the question, she decided to take a break. So, she ate a packet of biscuits and went back to continue to do her homework. While walking back to her bedroom to do her homework, Skylar saw the television and was tempted to watch her favourite television programme. “5 o’clock, my favourite television programme is starting!“ Skylar exclaimed, rushing towards the television.
Skyler spent a long time watching the television programme until she had forgotten to do her homework. Just then, there was a sound of the front door unlocking. Oh no! Mom is back home! Thought Skylar. She rushed back into her room, but, unluckily for her, she had left the television on! So, when Mother walked into the house, she knew that Skylar had been watching the television.
“Skylar! Have you been watching the television? I told you that you must get my permission first, before you watch it,” Mother snapped. Guilt lanced through Skylar as she saw Mother fuming with anger. She was dumbstruck at the sight and she desperately tried to hold back her tears. Skyler walked out of her room and apologised profusely to Mother.
Skylar got banned from watching television for two months and she had to do extra worksheets given by her mother. She resolved to be more responsible and to always do her homework first before she plays.

"Ahhhhh..." Ellie sighed in satisfaction as she snuggled into her thick, fluffy blanket to read her newly bought book. She had been yearning to read it since the exams, she was so excited! "My BFF is an Alien," she read aloud to herself. As she read, she found herself drifting away from reality, and into the story she had been reading. It was just like a dream! She squealed and winced at everything she read. She felt so at home. She did not ever want to leave the fabulous land of books and imagination.

Unfortunately, her happiness was short-lived. Suddenly she heard a high pitched shriek, followed by a shout. She jumped out of bed and rushed to kitchen as fast as light. And right in front of her eyes, lo and behold, the kitchen cabinets were on fire. She gaped at the scene with her mouth open like a fish out of water. She stood there, still stunned and in shock, that you could not tell the difference between her a statue.

Her mum frantically ran around like a headless chicken. Her dad rushed out of the kitchen and grabbed a small fire extinguisher they had in their helper's room at sprayed it at the fire.

After a few minutes, the fire had been put out and everyone was safe. There was just one thing left to do. "WHY were the kitchen on fire dad?!" Ellie blurted out, breaking the awkward silence. "Heheh," Ellie's dad chuckled nervously, with a very guilty look on his face. "I was cooking tonight's dinner which was steak, but I was clumsy and spilled some whiskey onto it and caused a fire." Ellie glared at her father as she looked like she would roast him just like the burnt steak. Her mum just smacked her forehead withed palm thinking, "Oh why are you so careless?"

"Dad, promised me one thing. Don't be so clumsy again. And also, don't cook steak on a Saturday night. I wanted pasta. Okay?" Dad nodded his head and pinky-promised Ellie.

One unfortunate and blazing Saturday afternoon, Eva and Evan were lying on the carpet with the air-conditioner switched on in the playroom. "What can we do now? I am soooo bored," groaned Evan pushing his sister, Eva, away from him. "Ouch! I don't know! What about Scrabble?" asked Eva. Evan reluctantly agreed,"Fine!"
Half an hour later, Eva won the game. She held her high and laughed mockingly, " I am pretty good!" "Good?", Evan yelled," It's not fair, I always lose!" Evan stuck out her tongue and commented that Evan was a sore loser. The remark made Evan very angry. He shoved Eva to the floor and upset the whole game by throwing the pieces all around the table.
Eva shouted at him angrily but he shouted back rudely. Soon, the siblings were fighting like cats and dogs. Their mother was preparing lunch in the kitchen and could not hear anything. Nobody could stop them until... "Crash!" Evan had knocked a vase down when he was trying to scratch Eva.
Their hearts were in their mouths realising that they were in hot soup as the door opened. Mother anxiously barged in . Then, seeing that her children were not physically hurt, she heaved a sigh of relief. Take a deep breath to calm herself down she asked " I'm glad neither of you are hurt, what happened?" Eva and Evan told their mother everything. Their mother chided them and made them clean up the mess.
As the siblings cleaned up the mess, the apologised to each other. They learnt not to quarrel over small things and to talk it out instead.

Jason's mother always says, "Look before you leap" but he always turned a deaf ear as he never really understood what it meant. However a recent incident taught him the importance of the saying.

June holidays had just begun. Jason was bored sitting at home. He had just purchased a new pair of skating shoes and was very keen to learn the sport. However, his mother advised him not to try it on his own.

The sun had just set and a slight breeze whistled in the air providing a relief from the sweltering heat. It was a perfect time to be outdoors. When Jason's friends called out to hang out with them, he could not resist trying out his new skating shoes. Swirling with excitement, Jason headed to the park. Enthusiasm bubbled upon seeing his friends racing in the park. Ignoring his mother's advice, he decided to join his friends. Adrenaline surge through his body as he picked up his pace. Momentarily distracted, he stumbled over a stone and lost his balance. "Ouch!", crying aloud he pitched forward and fell to the ground with a loud thud.

Pain seared through his left leg as he howled in agony. Black spots started swimming before his eyes as he saw his friends looming over him. Soon he blacked out. When Jason regained consciousness, he found himself lying in the hospital bed. He looked around and saw his parents at his bedside. His left leg was in a cast and he winced in pain.

Jason felt ashamed. He regretted his actions. He had learnt his lesson the hard way from his experience. The scar on his left leg will always remind him of his reckless behaviour and it will be forever etched in his memory.

I was afraid of water as I always thought that water brings many dangers, until one incident that changed my mind...
One beautiful Saturday morning, I woke up from my sweet slumber. The sun hanged high in the sapphire blue sky. The tantalising aroma of breakfast wafting from the kitchen made me salivate. I went to the living room to have breakfast.
After eating, Mother suggested, "Why don't we go to the swimming complex?"
I grumbled, "But I am afraid of water."
"You will have to overcome your fear, Mary," Mother said. I reluctantly agreed.
I dragged my feet when we reached the swimming complex. My parents stepped into the pool and settled down while I stood there, looking at the water being pushed gently by the wind. I did not know if it was safe enough to step into the pool. I thought to myself, the pool looks so deep.
My parents saw me rooted to the ground, gripped by fear that was written all over my face.
"Mary, are you going to join us in the pool?" Father asked.
My fearful heart was beating deafeningly. Father's question jolted me from my frozen state. My face became pasty when I came face to face with my phobia of water.
"Mary, it is not scary at all, just slowly step inside," Father coaxed.
Once I stepped into the pool, I was taken aback with my eyes wide-opened. The water level was surprisingly only at my chest. I heaved a sigh of relief. As I was still a little uncomfortable, Father's reassuring words cajoled me to take more steps into the pool. Not long after, I got the hang of the water wrapping around me. Father also taught me some swimming techniques. At the end of the day, I had overcome my fear of water.
From then onwards, I took up swimming lessons and became an excellent swimmer. I also participated in swimming competitions. The incident will be forever etched in my memory. I learnt to always persevere and continue to face any obstacles with confidence.

“Matthew! Do you want to bake a surprise birthday cake for mother?” Matilda exclaimed.“Sure! Do you want to bake a strawberry cake?“ Matthew replied. Matilda nodded her head in agreement. It was a boring day as their parents were away for work and they were not allowed to play video games.They had never baked a cake before, it would be a new experience indeed!
Matilda and Matthew got ready all the ingredients and started baking the cake. They were swirling with excitement and enthusiasm bubbled around the kitchen. “Matilda, pass me the sugar please,“ Matthew requested. And just as Matilda was going to pass Matthew the sugar, she accidentally hit Matthew’s favourite cup which was on the kitchen counter.
Like a horror movie unfolding before his eyes, Matthew let out a bloodcurdling scream, “Matilda! How dare you break my favourite cup!“ “I…I… I didn’t mean it, it was an accident,“ Matilda stuttered, bowing her head in shame.
Matilda apologised profusely and Matthew reluctantly forgave her. They agreed to clean up the shards of the broken glass and finish baking the cake. When mother reached home, she was as happy as a lark when she saw the cake. She praised both Matilda and Matthew .
Matilda and Matthew learnt that they should always work together and not argue, just like the saying,“Teamwork makes the dream work.”

Being Courageous
The classroom fell silent at Ms Tay's question. She had asked if anyone wanted to perform for the Primary 6 Closing Ceremony. I wanted to perform, as it would be a good experience, but on the other hand... I knew I would be nervous.
My classmate, who was sitting next to me, Sarah, asked," Jade, don't you want to perform a piano solo?"
I froze at her question. Finally, I shook my head. Sarah gave me a pleading look. She always wanted to see me perform. I gave a deep sigh, I knew I was not perfect, but everyone is not. Reluctantly, I nodded my head and raised my hand.
When I reached home, I began to practice, and have second thoughts about this. Firstly, I learnt how to play the piano from my older sister, private piano lesson costs too much for me. Secondly, I was not confident.
The days flew by quickly and I spent almost every second practising. I just continued practising endlessly.
Today is the day, I thought to myself as paced frantically up and down the backstage. Peering out, I saw parents and other students watching the ongoing performance. I gasped in horror, and broke out in cold sweat, did Ms Tay say anything about this?To be honest, I did not listen to anything except for the date and time. For a few seconds, I still could not imagine what I saw. I wished I had never agreed to perform.
My friend, Skylar, who was performing a flute solo, seeing my facing mixed withe emotions, rushed to me, " What wrong, Jade?' she asked worriedly.
"I...I...ca...can't p...per...perform!" I stuttered," I...I want t...to fo... for my friends, e...especially Sarah, b...but I ca...can't now!"
Skylar smiled at me," I know how you feel, But just forget everything and take a deep breath," she coaxed," I know you can do it, you just need to find the courage in you. Remember, courage is like a bottle, you have it and you can use it."
Hearing these comforting words, I gave Skylar a watery smile as she walked away. I felt as if she had put the courage in me.
To calm my pounding heart, I took a deep breath and walked up the stage's steps as my name was called. Though my legs wobbled like jelly, I sat confidently on the seat.
Then, I started to play, lovely ripple music, that was indeed music to everyone's ears. I could see tears welling up in many parents' and pupils' ear. Quiet sobs could gradually be heard. It brought joy to my heart to see that the audience enjoyed my music and were moved to tears.
When I was done with my piece, all that I could hear was applause. Getting up, it got louder and louder. As I walked down the stage, it died down slowly, but I could still hear the echo of the applause in my ears.
I had learnt many things from this simple performance, but the most important one was courage. Without courage ( or Skylar ), I would never had such a memorable performance. _{^{(Edited version)}}

On a breezy Sunday morning, the sun hung high in the beautiful blue sky, the birds were chirping and I knew that it was going to be a wonderful day. I could smell the aroma of my favourite food, pancakes, wafting from the kitchen. I quickly changed out of my pyjamas and skipped down the stairs from my bedroom to the dining room. “Happy Birthday!” My parents exclaimed to me. “We planned to take you to Forest Adventure.”
Forest Adventure was a high element course that was near my house. I have been afraid of heights as I thought that being high in the sky was very dangerous. I said, “okay,“ reluctantly and ate my breakfast slowly. I was whirling with excitement and my heart pounded wildly against my chest.
When we reached Forest Adventure, I saw many people doing the most challenging course. They made it look like it was so easy that I decided to go for the most challenging course, but it was a mistake.
Everything went smoothly until the most challenging part of the high element course! No, it was not the zipline, and no, it was not the tunnel that hung from the top of the trees, it was the part where you had to jump from a high platform to a net near the ground! I stood rooted to the ground and blood drained from my face. Adrenaline did not rush through my veins anymore and my heart pounded more wildly than ever!
My parents saw me standing on the platform, not moving due to my shock and they calmly encouraged, “Joanne, it is okay, you need to face your fears, trust us, it is not scary at all.” Encouraged by my parents’ words, I was motivated and decided to make the jump. I tingled in enthusiasm as I walked closer and closer to the edge of the platform.
I closed my eyes completely shut and, jumped. The wind breezed through my hair and everything seemed to slow down. I caught onto the net and made my way up from the net to the next platform. I continued the course and had a whale of a time. It was a wonderful birthday indeed! I had overcome my fears!
I learnt that we should always be courageous and take risks if we want to do something better At the same time, we also have to be careful before we take the risk just like the saying, “Look before you leap.” Now, I cannot wait for my next birthday!

If there had been a turn of events, he would not be alive to pen this down. This traumatizing incident remained deeply etched in his memory.


The flaming red sun was casting its gentle rays all around during sunset. The birds chirped merrily as the cool evening breeze rustled through the leaves of the trees in the park. Sam was having a whale of time on his new bike. His heart swelled with pride as he just learnt how to balance well on his bike lately.


"Let's race till home, Sam", his friend Jason beckoned. Swirling with enthusiasm, Sam chased Jason on his bike. Adrenaline surged through his body as they raced along. Sam had nearly reached the void deck when a flower pot crash in front of him. "Watch out!", Jason cried aloud. Momentarily distracted, he lost his balance and fell to the ground with loud thud. In a fit of anger, a drunk man had thrown a flower pot out of his window. The scene seemed to be set in slow motion.


Sam winced in pain as he tried getting up. Pain seared through his his left arm as he groaned and moaned. Immediately, a commotion broke out around the spot. Jason immediately whipped his mobile phone and called the Police. Authorities arrived at the scene and arrested the person who committed the act. Sam was immediately whisked to the nearby clinic.


Fortunately, it was a close shave for Sam and he sustained some minor injuries. Sam was shaken by the traumatic experience. For the next few days, whenever he passed through the spot, he would break out in a cold sweat. "Once bitten, twice shy", he learnt to be vigilant with his surrounding and act with caution.

The golden the rays of the sun shone down on me as I rushed to a basketball court. The court was next to a bad-tempered gardener's house. Ms Phoebe's startling blue eyes, flashing with anger when someone broke her pot. However, I was certain that nothing would go wrong.
When I reached the court, Mel and Mary, my friends were dribbling a ball. Mel beckoned towards me and I rushed to them. The cool wind whipped through my hair as we threw the ball back and forth and tried our best to shoot the ball into the basket. Unfortunately, none of us succeeded. As we stopped for a water break, I glanced at Ms Phoebe's house. Though the pots and plants were neatly arranged, there was no sign of Ms Phoebe.
"Hmm? Where's Ms Phoebe
Mel wiped her forehead and explained, "Oh, she's out for the day."
I nodded my head, a puzzled frown painted across my face. Ms Phoebe rarely left her house, she preferred to be near her garden. Most of the time, she would sit down and watch us play. Being watched by Ms Phoebe was very uncomfortable, what if we broke her pots? Perhaps Ms Phoebe was visiting her friend.
As we walked back to the court, Mary held the ball under her arm, with a smug expression on her tanned face.
Guess what? I mastered who to shoot the ball already! What babies you are! It's quite easy!" boasted Mary, sticking her tongue out at us in a conceited manner, "I'll drink some water and then show you!"
Mary gulped down her water and positioned herself. She squinted, and gave the ball a hard toss. The ball, however, seemed to have different ideas. It swerved suddenly and the ball hit the pole. It bounced backwards, and flew to Ms Phoebe's yard...
"Nooooooooooooo!!!!!" I shouted and dived forward to try to stop the ball, but it crashed straight into...a small potted plant.
It was not just any potted plant, it was the plant Ms Phoebe won as an award! Mary's black cold eyes bulged and her mouth was hanging open like a goldfish out of water.
"What did you do?" demanded Mel.
"It's not my fault! It's the ball's, if it..." wailed Mary.
"Well, who told you to throw it that hard? We always throw the ball gently!" Mel screamed, her hands on her hips.
Mary opened her mouth to argue but I interrupted her, "What will we do now?"
They stared at me but I shrugged my shoulders. I walked over and picked up the ball, that was lying on the floor. It would be likely that Ms Phoebe would notice the potted plant broke, it was a prize! We could not throw it away, she would notice for sure. What else could we do? I sat on the grass, twisting it around my fingers. Mel still looked annoyed and Mary was glaring at her.
Suddenly, Mary snapped her fingers and yelled, "Bingo! I've got it!" We turned to face her and she continued triumphantly, "I have this," she paused and snatched something out of her bag. "It's a plant, exactly like the one we broke! If we..."
"Why do you have a plant in your bag?" mused Mel.
Mary ignored her and grabbed the broken potted plant. She placed the new plant in the exact position and tossed the old one into her bag.
"Perfect," grunted Mel.
"It's lying, you're being dishonest," I started, but suddenly interrupted myself, "For once, I guess..."
I looked down at my sweaty palms. I hope Ms Phoebe would never find out. We retrieved our belongings and sheepishly walked away.
Mel whispered into my ear, "I just hope that Ms Phoebe would never find out. It won't end up well if she did."
I nodded my head and prayed that Ms Phoebe would never find out. If there had a been turn of events, it would have been a disaster. From that day onwards, to avoid Ms Phoebe's suspicion, we forbade ourselves from going to the court near her house.
Luck was certainly on our side. It indeed was a close shave! _{^{(Edited version)}}

Time flows like a river and we will forget many things. However, there will always be one thing we can never forget.........

It was a lovely Monday evening. Joseph was speeding home from his office in his car. He was unaware of his surroundings as he really wanted to get, eat dinner, and watch the upcoming football match.

While he was thinking about who would win the football match, he did not notice the traffic lights turn red. Joseph then looked up and saw a pedestrian crossing the road. The pedestrian did not seem to realise a car speeding towards her too. He gasped.

Swerving towards the left as much as he could, Joseph stepped hard on the brakes, crossed his fingers, closed his eyes and prayed that he did not hit the pedestrian. He opened his eyes slowly to turn and see whether the pedestrian was alright. He heaved an audible sigh of relief. He had missed the pedestrian by just a few inches.

"Are you okay?" Joseph stepped out of his car and walked towards the speechless pedestrian. The pedestrian, who said she wanted to be called Emily, ignored Joseph's question. Instead, she scolded him for what felt like an eternity about him not supposed to speed. Joseph confessed," I am sorry, Emily. I was just trying to get home as fast as possible."

But Emily was not satisfied. She spotted a policeman walking by and stopped him in his tracks. She then told him everything that had happened. The policeman walked towards Joseph and handed him a speeding ticket.

Joseph felt remorseful so he quickly got into his car and drove home. He no longer was interested in watching the football match. Instead, he thought about the incident and understood his consequence, the speeding ticket.

That day, Joseph recalled, was indeed a close shave! He learnt never to speed no matter what as accidents would happen.

I remembered once when I was an inch away from a severe injury or even death...
It was a nice day. The afternoon birds chirping along with the slight breeze and the rustling of the leaves on the trees made a beautiful melody. I came back home from grocery shopping at the supermarket as my mother told me to do so. I reluctantly agreed even though I wanted to indulge myself in my favourite book. As I was walking to the lift to go up to my house unit, suddenly I heard excited cheers and shouts. I thought they were just young kids playing. Therefore, I did not care or think much about it.
When I was waiting for the lift, I saw a sign on the pillar that wrote " No riding of bicycles and scooters!" At that moment, I heard the screeching sounds of wheels and the excited cheers again. That's when curiousity got the better of me. and I decided to 'investigate' . Although the lift was coming, I was concerned as I heard worried cries. I walked carefully and realised that a teenager's bicycle was out of control. I saw his worried face, ashen white. He tried to steer his bicycle, but could not.
Everything seemed to be happening in slow motion. I stood there frozen stiff as I embraced the worst that could happen. I closed my eyes and my mouth hung agape. Then, I heard a shriek, "Watch out!". Suddenly, my senses awakened. I immediately took a step back. Just then, the bicycle passed me like lightning, I was only an arm's length away from it.
"Bang!" I heard a loud crash. I saw the teenager's bicycle crash into the pillar. Debris and dust from the pillar flew everywhere. I saw the boy, on the floor. Crimson blood was flowing out of his wound. Passersby were crowding around the scene. Some had worried faces while others whipped out their phones to call the police and ambulance. Just then, my neighbour, who was a retired doctor, came up to me and asked, "Are you alright?" I murmured a "Yes." My neighbour said, you almost got hit by the bicycle! Good thinking and reaction! You were lucky you reacted fast when I called out to you." He then went to check on the boy who fell from his bicycle. I took a moment to process what had happened. I realised that without my neighbour's urgent shout, I might be on the ground unconscious. The police took my statements and the ambulance took the teenager to the hospital.
Recalling this incident, I am relieved that I had no serious injuries or bones that were fractured. I am also very thankful for my neighbour. I was informed that the teenager was recovering well in the hospital. I hope he has learnt his lesson, not to ride the bicycle at the void deck. I also learnt to be more alert of my surroundings. It was a close shave!

"When can I get a phone?" It was Laurel's sister's birthday. "Not yet, darling. When your sister got her phone, she was ten years old." "But I am already eight!" "No." Laurel Smiled and she started to think about the day she received her phone......

"Happy Birthday!" Laurel opened her eyes sleepily to see her parents wishing her a happy birthday. It was her tenth birthday and to her, it was a milestone achievement. "Good morning, my wonderful parents," she said, standing up. She walked down the stairs to the living room to see her pesky little sister trying to open one of her birthday presents. "Don't open it now! I promise I'll let you open it later." Laurel's sister, Lauren, looked up and said, "Are you sure?" "Yes. I promise.' Laurel carried her to the dining table and sat down to eat her breakfast.

"Laurel, I want you to follow me somewhere for a surprise," Laurel's father said. "I want to go too!" Lauren interrupted, before Laurel could say yes. "Lauren, you have stay home and help your mother do something." Laurel's mother immediately carried Lauren away and started whispering something in her ear. Lauren giggled and Laurel took the chance to escape out of the house with her father. She could not wait for the surprise her father had mentioned. When she got into the car and shut the door, her father told her, "Don't ask any questions. Just follow me." Laurel obeyed her father.

"Thank you, Dad! This is the best birthday present!" Laurel's father smiled. They were at the amusement park, where Laurel was thrilled to see her favourite ride, the roller coaster. Laurel's father hoped that she would spend enough time in the amusement park so that his wife would be able to decorate the house quickly for Laurel's birthday celebration. While Laurel was on the roller coaster, Laurel's father texted one of his friends to help his wife decorate the house, so that work could be done faster.

It was 2 o' clock in the afternoon. Laurel was finishing her late lunch and the duo entered the car, ready to go home. Laurel's mother had texted Laurel's father that she was done and that they could head back home. Laurel opened the main door, not expecting another surprise. "Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday, dear Laurel, happy birthday to you." The whole room erupted into a song of 'Happy Birthday' and Laurel was on cloud nine when she saw all of her classmates gathered in the living room. When Laurel entered the house, she turned to face her father and asked, "Is this why you brought me to the amusement park?" Laurel's father nodded and gave everyone a huge thumbs-up. Laurel then turned to look at the beautiful birthday cake when she realised that something was amiss. The cake did not have any candles!

Seeing the look of disappointment on Laurel's face, Laurel's mother decided to ask, "What's wrong, Laurel?" Laurel replied, "I mean, thank you to everyone for coming, but why doesn't the cake have candles?" Everyone started whispering comments and Lauren was pacing around the living room like a cat on a tin hot roof. Laurel's mother tried to calm everyone down. Laurel's father, on the other hand, was as cool as a cucumber. He entered the kitchen, took ten biscuit sticks and stuck them on the cake. Everyone heaved an audible sigh of relief. Laurel and Lauren thanked their father for his genius idea and they started giving out slices of cake. Laurel could not help but stare at the pile of birthday presents. She was thankful and grateful for her mother who had prepared the wonderful surprise.

After everyone had left, the family started clearing the mess. Laurel then remembered that she had promised her sister to open her presents together. She dragged Lauren to choose the first present to open. That was how Laurel got the next surprise.

It was a phone. From her parents. She was tongue-tied with amazement and gratitude. She forced her mouth to open and said, "Thank you, Mom and Dad. This is truly the best present in my life." Tears of joy started to well up in her eyes as she brought the present to her parents. "Thank you," she repeated. Her parents replied, "You are very welcome, Laurel." She simply smiled.

" Please!!!!" The begging sound of Lauren jolted Laurel back to reality. Her parents looked at their two beautiful daughters and said, almost in unison, " We'll think about it."

Life is full of surprises and celebrations. There are many circumstances when one can secretly wish for something exciting to happen. The real surprise is when the wish unexpectedly comes true. This time it came as my splendid birthday celebration.

The first rays of the morning sun sneaked its way into the darkened bedroom. With a groan, I slammed my fist on the alarm clock, silencing the irritating beeping. I rubbed my bleary eyes as I woke up from my sweet slumber. As I stepped out of my bedroom, in contrast to the usual hubbub, only silence greeted me.

"Where is everyone?", I muttered to myself. My heart sank as it was my tenth birthday and nobody was around to wish me. Our helper informed me that my parents had left for work and I better get ready for school.


After my school, I went for my swimming lesson as usual. In the evening, when I returned home, I could not believe my eyes. I looked around and saw the tastefully decorated living room. "Happy birthday!", everyone shouted in unison.


My jaws dropped as I gawked at the scene and my heart almost missed a beat. Bright multi-coloured balloons of all shapes and sizes hung on the walls. My face lit up with joy as my friends popped the confetti around the room. Laughter and giggles filled the air as all guests streamed in for the celebration. The "happy birthday" wishes hung in the air as I embraced them warmly. I was over the moon and my eyes were shinning with tears of joy. I was feeling on the top of the world.

A chorus of "Happy birthday song" echoed through the party. Delightful chatter merged with the celebration as everyone sat down for dinner. Plates of sumptuous food were laid out and everyone stuffed all the delicacies with relish.


Finally, the day came to an end and everyone parted ways with beaming smiles. I felt euphoric and was grinning like a cheshire cat. Never in my life did I expected to receive such a wonderful birthday celebration. I thanked my parents profusely for springing up the surprise celebration and it will be forever etched in my memory.

It was Peter's birthday, his family surprised him by going to his favourite restaurant, Swensen's, to celebrate his tenth birthday. Peter and his sister, Emily, were bouncing in their steps when a waiter escorted them to their seats. The tantalising aroma of freshly fried food wafted in the air. The restaurant was buzzing with the energy of its patrons. It was crowded, every table was occupied with young families laughing and chatting.
After they placed their order, Peter received a card that Emily had made for him. "Happy birthday my dear brother!" she presented the colourful card to her brother with a wide smile plastered on her face. She had been preparing the card for weeks. She had even saved some of her pocket money so that she could buy Peter his favourite bowl of chocolate ice cream at Swensen's. She wanted to make his day a really delightful one.
After dinner, an old waiter approached the family's table, ready to serve Peter a huge bowl of chocolate ice cream. "This is my present for you. I know you've been wanting to have this for a while," Emily chirped enthusiastically, pointing to the delicious ice cream that the old waiter held. Peter was thrilled! The last time he had a taste of the ice cream was two years ago and he had been craving for it ever since. Emily's efforts to celebrate his birthday had truly made his day!
All of a sudden, a sound of loud crash reverberated through the air. The heavy ice cream bowl had slipped through the old waiter's fingers and fallen onto the table, spilling the entire bowl of ice cream. Peter and his family were taken aback by the sudden sight and their eyes grew saucer-wide. At that moment, the old waiter apologised profusely to the birthday boy, "Sorry sir, we will serve you a new bowl immediately." "Uncle don't worry about it. You're are doing a good job handling the restaurant," Peter encouraged. The old waiter was assured by Peter's compliment. Then, he hurriedly wiped the table and left to get a new bowl of ice cream. The restaurant was clearly understaffed and the old waiter had to bear the brunt of dinner crowd.
At the end of dinner, Peter and his family were making a beeline for the exit when a loud voice stopped them in their tracks, "Stop right there boy!" Peter turned his head. He saw the old waiter beaming at him. "Thank you for making my day with your compliment. Happy birthday!" the old waiter gushed as he handed Peter a balloon. A wide smile spread across the old waiter's face. Seeing how happy the old waiter became, all because of his small gesture, made Peter's day.
Peter had learnt a valuable lesson on his tenth birthday, it was better to give than to receive.

"It's my birthday!" Mary exclaimed with joy as she shot out of bed. She was in an upbeat mood and was excited to begin her day. Within minutes, Mary had changed out of her pajamas and was ready to start her birthday celebration.

The birthday celebration would take place at a function room near the void deck of Mary's house. After a few hours, Mary's parents had setup the function room. The room was stylishly decorated and there was lively music blaring from the speakers. Suddenly, Mary's mobile phone rang. It was her best friend, Jane! She was calling Mary to inform her that she was on her way to the party. Mary felt euphoric upon hearing the news and waited patiently for her friend to arrive.

Within fifteen minutes, the guests started to arrive to the birthday celebration. Suddenly, two boys sprinted into the function room! They were Mary's playful cousins. "Stop!" Her mother shriecked. They were about to crash into the birthday cake! Everything seemed to be happening in slow motion. Horrified gasps pierced the air as the beautiful birthday cake fell off it's stand, crashing to the floor. Mary was grief-striken to see her ruined cake on the floor.

Everybody was lost for words... everybody except Jane. She could not bear to see her best friend so miserable on her birthday. "Hey, Mary can I tell you a joke?" she asked Mary. "Okay..." Mary replied. "What type of music is scary for birthday balloons? Pop Music!" she exclaimed, trying to cheer Mary up.
Soon, everyone was laughing at the joke and enjoying themselves. After the splendid celebration, Mary's cousins apologised for their actions. Everyone parted aways with beaming smiles. It was then Mary realised that birthday cakes or presents were not important, and that it was the presence of friends and family that made moments like these so special.

As the netball match approached, the Blue Crew decided to turn their fortunes around. During Physical Education (PE) lessons, they practised diligently, refining their passes, teamwork, and shooting skills. Their determination grew stronger each day.

One sunny afternoon, as they were practising, Daisy, one of the Blue Crew members, exclaimed, "Come on, team! We've got this!"

Jenny, another teammate, chimed in, "Yeah, we might be the underdogs, but we can win this if we believe in ourselves."

When the match day arrived, the Blue Crew faced off against the "Red Racers," a team that had always dominated. The match was intense and tied as they approached the final quarter.
