         <description><![CDATA[<p>My name is Linda Luna. This is my first semester in the Master of Arts - Professional Counseling program. My short term goal after completing the program is to become a certified licensed professional counselor (LPC) and continue to work at my current school district for a few years to gain experience working with adolescents as an LPC. My long term goal is to open my own practice for trauma clients. For now, I am starting my 5th year as a high school counselor and this is my first year serving as head counselor.&nbsp;My goal for this course is to better understand the impact trauma has on people in different ways and how I can be more supportive to those who have experienced it. I want to recognize the effects and build my resources to respond with care and understanding.&nbsp;</p><p>Having experienced multiple students in crisis and&nbsp;expressed suicidal ideation, the process to respond to the situation and follow the district protocol is to ensure students are to never be left alone , parents are contacted, and provided with a list external agencies that can provide an evaluation followed by appropriate therapy. Most of my students have shared their experience with me at the high school level and have held those suppressed memories for years in some cases. Some students have expressed their experiences in writing assignments with a teacher they trusted . I am ready to learn what happens after we refer students to receive therapy .&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><p>This course and learning about crisis, trauma , and mental illness is important to my future role as an LPC because the ability to recognize signs and know how to respond appropriately is crucial. By increasing the understanding of resilience and its applications to research , prevention and intervention; individuals will ultimately learn how to become self-sufficient. My goal is to equip individuals with a safety plan to replace negative thoughts/behaviors with positive thoughts/actions .&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><p>The article, <a rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" class="wants-props-update" href="https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.3402/ejpt.v5.25339">Resilience After Trauma, From Surviving to Thriving </a>&nbsp;states that the ability for adolescents to become resilient after trauma, involves factors that assist with the healing process: The ability to self-regulate/coping skills , physical well being , and supportive relationships can assist with the healing process to get back to a healthy functioning life. As a future LPC, I play a vital role in the process to get my clients to that level of utilizing the resources and skills . </p>]]></description>
