There are 4 types of Influenzas viruses: A, B, C, and D. Type A viruses infect humans and several types of animals, like birds, pigs, and horses. Type B is usually only found in humans. Type C influenza is usually only found in humans, but has also been found in pigs and dogs and Type D is mostly found in cattle.
Pathogen: Influenza A Virus

Influenza virus has a rounded shape, but it can be elongated or irregularly shaped too. It also has a layer of spikes on the outside. The spikes are made of two different proteins- one is the hemagglutinin (HA) and the other is the neuraminidase (NA). The HA protein allows the virus to stick to a cell, so that it can enter a host cell and start the infection process. Viruses always need to enter the cell so that they can make copies of themselves. The virus needs the NA protein so it can exit the host cell, so that the new viruses that was made on the inside of the host cell can go on to infect more cell. Since the proteins are present on the surface of the virus, they are visible to the human immune system. The Influenza A virus is from the Orthomyxovirida and causes the flu.
