I notice how the black background made the hand stand out in the white light. At first I thought this was a hard working man's hand, then the shading found on the hand, shows a lot of wrinkles near the wrist. I believe this is an elderly man's hand. What I think this image is trying to say is that even though he may be elderly, it's not too late to plan a future. "Don't wait" could mean that he has realized his life shouldn't stop here because he's old.. Or maybe he see's that life is too short to live unhappy. If you lose someone close to you, it will be hard at first and it takes time, but it should not hold someone back to possibly move forward one day. 
It could also mean that he held his life back for a little reason. Anytime a photographer uses a black and white filter, a photo creates a much deeper emotional output; purity, sorrow, etc. The subject's hand, along with the lettering were very well-thought. The hand is that of an elderly human, and the emphasis of the contrast defines the wrinkles in this person's hand, showing the old age of the subject. The simple lettering of, "Don't wait" is all you need to truly understand how the subject feels. They haven't lived life how they hoped, and are far too late to start now.
