I was fascinated by the video’s description of the spirit photography hoax. I’d like to learn more about that! (Especially now, around Halloween time.) It sounds like the basis of a really spooky novel.

Photographs have always had a sense of manipulation by the artist. The creative choices made based upon their backgrounds, contexts, and viewpoints tell a story about what is in front of the lens. I am curious what the opinions of modern day photographers is on an image’s validity or quality with post-production editing. Of course the context is important; but, for example, if a film photograph I take in black and white has the contrast adjusted digitally after being scanned, is this “looked down on” by fine artists?

I often wonder how many stories a single picture can tell? I’m reminded of Rod Stewart’s 1971 album “Every Picture Tells a Story “ which tells a story in song and then I think of some famous pictures and the story behind them. Depending on the context and our understanding of it, the story changes. I saw the photo of Kim Phuc, titled “The Terror of War” and first thought it was child porn before seeing the background. The New York Times considered the same thing before publishing. Journalist were cropped out of the original picture. She wasn’t expected to survive her serious burns from napalm, endured 17 surgeries and years later, asked for political asylum in Canada during a refueling stop in Newfoundland. I can only tell a small part of her story. How many stories are in a single photograph?

I loved hearing Ed Kashi speak. I think when he makes the personal points about making images that can stand without text, I will sit with that for a while.

I would also want to learn more about the narrative arc when looking to sequence images and build out a story from a body of work. Or, where to go regarding photographers that did that really well.

I would like to know more about the many stories each image gives, and if an author creates the image a certain way so that the viewer can know the story behind it, without making it up on their own.

Recently, with the rise of generative AI in art, I want to learn more about how ethical it is to use this technology in storytelling. What are the limits, and what would be "allowed"?

I have been talking a lot about storytelling with my students and that stories are one of the most human things but so it creating fictions.

I want to know more of the different methods used to manipulate a photo to really tell a certain story. NOT with A.I, but physical manipulation, even beyond using photoshop. I love film photography, so that's what I want to learn more about.

I love taking photographs that tell a story and I love seeing if others get the same type of story I want to convey. I do not like using AI at all so learning more about manipulating photos I am always interested in although I do like staying close to how an image is shot. I do not like the over saturated photographs to where they are not believable.

I would like to learn more about how photographers tell stories through their images. Photography can capture real moments, but it can also include creativity and imagination. I want to understand how photographers make sure their message is clear so viewers understand what the photo is trying to say. I also want to learn how storytelling in photography has changed from the past to today. Learning more about this will help me improve my photography skills and tell meaningful stories through my images.
