1. If God gave him the sense to discover and prove something then he would want this discovery to be known. He also says that the bible can be interpreted in many different ways and not one way can be solely right.
2. If one part of the bible can be proved to be wrong then the entire bible is incorrect. The church wanted everyone to fully believe in the bible and listen, without doubt, to Priests and other members of the church
3. Global warming is similar to this incident because people refuse to believe in it even though their is sufficient proof and evidence that it is true.

1. How does Galileo justify holding the belief that he did? If God gave us our senses, reason and intellect, then why would we not be allowed to use them to find out new things and discoveries. Also, he says the Bible is very complex and say things that are different than normal.
2. Why can the church not accept Galileo’s ideas that the sun is in the center of the universe? because in Genesis, Psalms, Ecclesiastes and Joshua, they all agree " the
sun is in the heavens and moves swiftly around the earth, and that the earth is far from the heavens and stands immobile in the center of the universe." If Galileo's theory was right, it would be going against the Bible.
3. Do we have any similar controversies today? If so, which ones? this is similar to the earth is flat or round theory because in the bible it says its round but some people agree it is flat.

1. He says in his letter that if you believe the word against the bible then you are considered heretic. He then states that if God provided us with reason and intellect then why can't we use and prove them.
2. The church cannot accept Galileo's idea because you can't deny the miracles from the bible. The church believes that the bible holds the only true word.
3. I think a similar controversy in today's world could be the thoughts on the harms and affects of something. For example, people think that carbs could be good or bad.

He also said that the bible is sometimes hard to follow, and you can interpret the truth of the bible in more than one way.
2. They can not accept Galileo's interpretations because if one part of the bible is proven false, then people will argue more than one part is false. Normally, if someone cant understand a part, people say its confusing and misinterpreted- but if it's false, people will try and prove more than one part false.
3. We do have similar contraries today, such as evolution of humans.

1. Galileo defends himself by saying that the Bible is easy to misinterpret, and that those who accuse him of his crimes have done that. He says that God made humans intelligent for a reason, and that he believes He would want them to use it.
2. The document says that church cannot accept Galileo's theory because if they do, they will either have to tell people that they cannot understand the Bible, or that the Bible is wrong, which makes people skeptical of the entire thing.
3. We do have similar controversies today, like the theories about evolution. Lots of scientific research has shown that species have evolved into humans, but it is still widely believed by Christians that God created humans, so that is a modern day argument between scientists and the church.
