1. _{Existence of the stages of development}
2. _{Importance of the environment and genetics/heredity}
3. _{Active and Passive character of development} 

_{With that being said, there are two main theoretical models/issues that theorists subscribe to:}

• _{Mechanistic Model of Development: Can be compared to that of a machine—organism is primarily reactive to nature and doesn’t serve as the source for it’s own development and acts. Only reacts to factors of the outside and surrounding environment and influences. Organisms are reactive and passive and there is no direction towards and ultimate goal.} 
• _{Organismic Model: The biological organism. An organism is composed of interconnected and interrelated parts that form an organized, but complex, system. The organism is viewed as active rather than passive. Accordingly, the biological organism view change and movement from within one’s self as opposed to a response from environmental or outside factors.}
