The origin of the name Cavite came from the word “Kawit” or “Cauit” , meaning hook. This refers to the shape of the land located along the coast of Bacoor Bay. When the Spaniards came, they mispronounced the name Kawit as “Kawite” or “Cavite”. Because there being no “K” in the Castilian alphabet, the letters changed from “w” to “v” to accommodate their accentuantation.

One of the things that I have seen personally with regards to this particular SDG are the polluted water bodies in Cavite. It is not only pollution , but the unrestrained utilization of groundwater as well. Extraction of groundwater in many provinces, including Cavite, has already exceeded the allowable extraction rate. Further unrestrained utilization of groundwater through additional allocations would result in the further deterioration of water quality, saline intrusion, and possible land subsidence. Despite Region IV-A having the biggest number of classified water bodies, water is still one of the problems that the region is facing. Pollution affects multiple resources such as fresh water, marine, coastal, and even groundwater resources.

The problem, in most cases, is that there is not enough water. The problem is that the sources of water present are contaminated and unsafe for drinking. Innovative Water Technologies, developed portable or pre manufactured water filtration systems that make use of solar and wind power systems that can filter up to 20,000 liters of clean water a day for up to and exceeding 10 years.

However, there are downsides to this. The most obvious downside to making use of solar panels would be its price. Solar panels are very expensive, with a 6kW system costing an average of fifteen thousand US dollars. However, this should not be a determinant as this should be seen as a long term investment that can help improve the lives of people in terms of drinking water and overall health.

Fog catchers can be implemented in places with severe water shortages, especially if the area has an abundance of fog. The process starts with the mist being caught as it passes through large vertical nets and trickles into a collection system where it is filtered and mixed with groundwater. The water is then piped into villages to provide clean and safe water.

The main disadvantages for this sort of technology would be the need for very specific climatologic and topographic conditions. The yield is also very difficult to predict and is very sensitive to changes in climate conditions.

A problem that we had encountered after moving to Cavite was the frequency of garbage collection. There would be times wherein our garbage would just pile up due to the fact that garbage was only collected once a week or not even once a week. However, our case is not as extreme as others. In some places in Cavite, garbage is not even collected once a month. Garbage disposal is still a large problem in Cavite. A good example of this is the article that would be shown in the next tab.

This article shares the effects of the already full sanitary landfill in General Mariano Alvarez. The article states that the households located in GMA had been forced to store the garbage inside their properties as the last time garbage had been collected was a month ago. However, not all the households were willing to store the garbage inside their home and opted to dump it on the streets.

To resolve the issue, Global Environment, Technologies and General Services (Gemtech), the ones who had been managing the landfill ultimately allowed the LGU to haul additional trash into the landfill. In addition to the landfill reaching critical state, there are also certain harmful effects that a landfill itself brings.

Landfills are not sustainable in the long run. They are only a band aid solution for a much larger problem. Sustainable waste management is crucial in not only protecting our natural environment that supports both human and animal health, but also to free up valuable lands taken up by landfills, improve energy production, create more jobs, and reduce the cost of transportation and logistics. These all serve to reduce pollution, produce energy, and conserve our natural resources

Landfills are large areas of land designed to be filled with waste materials. Some sites fill a hole in the ground whilst others simply pile the waste directly onto the ground. These are used to dispose waste that cannot be recycled or reused.

Landfill sites are known for causing a multitude of harmful environmental and health issues that is why they are only meant to be for waste materials that are unable to be reused, recycled, or recovered.

A few of the negative effects include:
1. The release of methane gas
     - Methane is a greenhouse gas that absorbs heat and contributes to climate change

2. Impacts Biodiversity
     - Landfills require wild areas to be cleared leading to the loss of habitats and degradation
     - As these sites are filled, local species are slowly replaced by other animals that feed on refuse such as rats and crows

3. Impacts Soil fertility
     - Due to the combination of toxic substances and decaying materials

4. Leachate
     - Leachate is a liquid produced in landfill sites that can become toxic and thus contaminate nearby sources of water.

5. Costly
     - The costs of managing a landfill are high due to the safety measures that need to be implemented

6. Can cause fires
     - Due to large amount of waste mixed with the gases landfill sites produce.

Water from air is a concept from the startup Zero Mass Water. Zero Mass Water makes use of solar power to create roughly 10 liters of clean drinking water a day. It uses solar energy to heat a sponge like material that creates a condensation that is then collected in a 30 liter reservoir. The water is then filtered and minerals are added to improve the taste of the water.

However, just like with the solar powered filtration systems, the main downside to this is the high price point of solar panels
