Does Gonorrhea effect babies? The answer to this question is YES! Gonorrhea can definitely be passed on to the baby during childbirth from the mother. The first sign of infection would first be noted around the two-week mark. As shown in the picture, the eyes of the baby will become red and swollen. Another sign would be a thick, pus-like discharge from the eyes of the baby.

Treatment for Gonorrhea may involve having an antibiotic injection. When receiving antibiotic injection, it may be given in the thigh or buttocks. A person may request antibiotic tablet instead of an injection. If you have any symptoms of gonorrhea, these will usually improve within a few days. It may take pain in pelvis or testicles up to two weeks to disappear completely. Bleeding between periods or heavy periods should improve by the time of your next period.

It is important to attending a follow-up appointment a week or two after treatment. This is highly recommended, so another test can be carried out to see if you're clear of infection. A person infected with Gonorrhea should avoid having sex. The reason a person should wait is because this will prevent the passing on infection to your partner. Another reason is that it will prevent the re-infection of Gonorrhea. Seek a doctor or a nurse immediately if the symptoms do not improve after treatment or you think you've been infected again. In some cases a person may need a repeat treatment or further tests to check for other problems.
