Harry Potter is probably is household name by now. Everyone knows who he is, but do you know his story? This book is where it all began. Harry Potter is a Fantasy Fiction book, with 223 pages! It's a great start for young kids who are getting into longer books. But, it's also for adults too!

This book follows the story of a young boy, Harry Potter. At a very young age, he was sent to be raised by his abusive Aunt and Uncle. He was told his parents had died in a car crash. However, they were actually killed by an evil wizard named Voldemort. Harry had lived with a lie his whole life. His spoiled brat of a cousin Dudley, had bullied him, and his life horrible. However, that all changes one day. One day, Harry receives an acceptance letter to Hogwarts Witchcraft and Wizardry and learns he's a Wizard!. His Aunt and Uncle try everything to stop the letters from coming. Eventually, a half-giant, name Hagrid. He then shows Harry the amazing world of Magic. He then attends the school, and makes some new friends. However, the evil wizard Voldemort is retuning to power. And, his plan is the steal the Sorcerer's Stone, the grant him eternal life! Will Harry stop him in time, or will the world pay?

I personally NEVER thought about reading Harry Potter until this year, actually. I always thought it was just for little kids, and it was too long to read. But, I was wrong. Right from the moment I read the first words, I was glued to the book. Harry Potter has a rare ability that most books don't have. It builds a whole new world around you, and sucks you out of your own.

However, she's making sure that they don't learn magic, fearing that they might turn against her. Harry, Hermione, and Ron team up to build a secret team. Dumbledores Army. They then teach them how to use magic, and defend themselves form the dark arts for when the time arrives to fight. Will they continue, or will they be caught red-handed?

I personally LOVED this book. It had great dialogue, and with 776 pages to work with, J.K Rowling did an Amazing job. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a great, long read!

6/1/18 - Percy Jackson: the Last Olympian

This is the 5th book in the the Percy Jackson Series. Like all other books in the series, it centers around Percy Jackson, the son of the Greek God Posiden, and his friends: Annabeth and Grover. As always, Percy finds himself on another quest. However, this seems to be the one that ends it all, with a prophecy about this battle given a long time ago seems to be taking effect. With Kronos, the Titan god wanting revenge on Olympus now hosting a body, he seems to be growing more powerful by the second. Will Percy and his friends muster the strength and courage to fight back against him, or will many fall to the hands of Kronos?

This book was a very interesting read. While I don’t normally read Percy Jackson frequently, this book grasped hold of my attention and was filled with loss, excitement, and different emotions. The themes portrayed throughout this novel seem to enhance the read even more. I would definitely recommend this book to whoever wants a great read, but simply doesn’t have the time to read huge lengthy books.

6/1/18 - Divergent

Divergent is an interesting book. Set in a post-apocalyptic world, people are divided into 5 factions based on their personality/interests. Abnegation, Amity, Erudite, Candor, and Dauntless. Each of these factions centers around a different emotion/personality. The book revolves around a girl named Beatrice, who grows up on an Abnegation family with her parents and brother. Eventually, at the age of 16, all are required to take an aptitude test, to determine which faction best suits them. However , Beatrice’s results are inconclusive, leaving her with a big choice to make to determine who she is and who she wants to be. Shortly after that, all who recently just took the test are put into a choosing ceremony, where they can choose to stay in their faction or switch to another. Beatrice musters the courage to switch to the Dauntless faction. Will she navigate the new world ahead of her, or fail trying? Will she even discover secrets?

Overall, this was a great read for me. This book tackled the themes of identity and social structure. This is a lengthy book, so I would recommend it for anybody who wants a nice read, and wants to start on a series.
