Nandini represents freedom. "But the gold which is you, beautiful one, is not of the dust, but of the light which never owns any bond." This shows her impact on the other people in Yaksha Town, she gives the others hope and beauty which is normally absent from their lives of monotonous digging. This makes them free from the oppression felt from the rulers, at least whilest in her presence. The king/ voice represents greed. Analyzing the 3rd quote from Professor, he states that Yaksha town is under eclipse , which implies that is under a period of some kind of depression.
