Part I of this presentation shows the four geographic regions. Each slide shows an image or two of prominant features and a brief description of the geography in that region. This is a good tool to introduce this standard.

Part II does not fit the standard, but could be a fun and useful introduction to the state symbols in West Virginia, with a multiple choice game format.

Use the suggestions on the Teacher Information pages to assist with planning this lesson. This presentation maps out each region by color coding a map and labeling each county in the state. Each slide has the county names so they are being labeled in sections, but they overlap counties as you go. Make sure students are labeling within the individual counties if you choose to use this tool with the blank version. One idea suggests printing on larger paper so the counties are large enough to write. Otherwise there is a version with the counties already named to save this step.

This project has been adapted for research on the tourism regions. The forms outline requirements for the research and presentation methods. The original project requires all presentation methods to be completed, listing requirements that are dispersed between each type. One may adapt this activity to include all information into one presentation method to simplify the task for students. A basic and bare rubric is provided as an example of how one may assess this project, but given the variety of requirements that are possible with this resource, a final and detailed rubric is not provided. This resource may also be picked through and used to supplement other resources.

This one page document can be used as a simplified note catcher for a base level research project. Students can use wvtourism.com to explore "things to do" within the regions. The PPT or a simple Google search can accompany students on the counties, but make sure to supervise and model how to search for this information to ensure it is accurate.

This PDF version of the WebQuest can be uploaded to Schoology for student access. Students will use the outline to document answers or you can edit and add places to write responses on this document. The questions are already included.

WebQuest: Explore features of WV through websites that allow students to explore at their own pace. This WebQuest covers the geographical regions, roadways, exposure to counties and county seats, natural resources and state symbols, and an introduction to the tourism website and regions. It can be used as a segway into a tourism project. Students will complete 6 steps, clicking on links to explore websites relating to each step's topic. The outline/questions will require students to participate and reflect on their exploration as they go.
