Use agency to choose their own project/activity by themselves

UOI

- Allowing students to co-create projects or choose topics for research within the Unit of Inquiry (UOI) theme.

- Provide a list of possible project ideas and ask students to brainstorm additional options.

English class

- The day before the next English, ask the students what they would you like to learn/what kind of activities do they want to do-about 3 minutes-discuss with the whole class

- Say the rules first. If there are so many different opinions, we will use the vote. The idea that gets the more supporters will be adopted. Please respect to the result.

- After the vote, if students still have different ideas, they should give reasons for their own ideas.

Choice in Assessment:

Step 1:

Discuss the need for assessment.

A lesson for SS to experience each assessment.

Give students options for how they demonstrate their learning.

Including: create a video, write a short story, give a presentation written test.

Allow SS to come up with their own ideas.

This empowers students to choose the method that suits their strengths and preferences.

Step 2:

Assessment Rubrics: choose focus (vocabulary mastery, fluency, or cultural understanding)

This workshop helped me to understand how I can start the process of developing agency in my students. I also learned the importance of understanding the purpose and goals for my teaching. I feel empowered to move forward and I am looking forward to applying what I've learned in my daily teaching.

I know in an IB school, the collaboration is important, no matter is about teachers, also about students and teacher, students and student.

I'll do more things with kids to increase their agency such as we make plan together, we discuss together, we make it together, and we reflect together. And during the teaching time, I'll use more positive reaction, Design more funny games to increase their agency, too. Sometimes teachers only focus on exact things, I'll do my teaching in a more broad, universal way.

1. In daily teaching, we need to collaborate with teachers from various disciplines, discussing how we can support students within the units of inquiry.

2. In inquiry-based lessons, we should actively engage students’ initiative, ignite their intrinsic motivation, and allow them to take more ownership of their learning. It is essential to listen to their voices, respect their choices, and provide sufficient support.

3. Integrate the ten Learner Profile attributes into the content of the inquiries, ensuring that each unit of inquiry enables students to make progress in knowledge and skills.

I need to be more of a thinker and researcher regarding IB information, practices and procedures. I have a better understanding of concepts. However, I still need more practice in discussing concepts and lines of inquiry within collaborative meetings to gain a deeper understanding and how they are used in practice.

I got new learnings about the IB PYP , in the beginning I felt confuse with so many information, but then I started to understand and now I just feel that I would like to learn more about this. I enjoy to learn about the learner profile and the steps for more student agency really helped me. Now I fell more prepared to help the students grow in the PYP

I have a better understanding of how specified concepts, additional concepts, and central idea is generated. As I have understood the logic behind these "abstract" things, I may be more able to deliever the lesson including guiding students to do the inquiry and develop their understanding of the particular unit
I have known that the learner profile will be varied in different context. This means that we need to consider carefully everytime when we do something differently.
I have learnt about the power of collaboration in planning the unit with different teachers, this would benefit students a lot from different aspects.

Teachers have the opportunity to inspire students to think deeply and develop their unique perspectives. This workshop lead us to teach in creative ways, fostering students’ curiosity, self-identity and helping them connect learning to real-life issues.
